I was thinking the 300 would be a fun precision cast bullet plinker out of the XP-100. Wondering if anyone has ever built one?

They're getting too expensive to modify an original. However it would be a delight- I love that gun and that cartridge. Best, Thomas.

I'd like to set one up as a switch barrel 221/300. I suppose the contender would be the cheaper way to go, but I've always wanted to try and XP and am planning to get a lathe so the action would be a friendlier way for me to experiment with different chamberings.

You might search around some of the IHMSA sites. Silhouette is really struggling right now, so there may be some one willing to part with an XP.

I saw one 300/221 Fireball (forgive me if I've goofed the styling) when I was looking for the same. By far the best estate option still looked to be using a bare action and building up from there.

Remington sells new in the box un-designated 700 actions including the SS single shot which come with triggers. They can legally be built to pistols but would be a rear grip unlike the original mid grip XP. I have seen a couple guys do a mid grip 700 but its a lot of messing around in my opinion. For a small cartridge like the 300 I would personally go with a Contender or Encore platform as everything is much easier. And cheaper even if you don't consider the cost of the XP action.

I have seen Rem M SEVEN 300 AAC actions only for sale; I thought about making an XP100-R type out of one.

A couple years ago Remington must have unloaded a pile of these to the market. Brownells had them on sale for $229 with trigger, bolt, and rail. Thought about one and then shied away because of a few unique things to them. Stocks are the tough item to find regardless of action mfg'r, rear or mid grip trigger.

I have an encore with a 12" 300 blackout barrel, 1-10 twist, it shoots 125gr very accurately, haven't chronometer any yet. Also the 155,168 and 178smks do very good, it likes the Palma bullets best.
