There was a thread somewhere I remember of results, but cant find it.

I was trying out some loads today. I bought a 230gr .311 mold. Works great subsonic, I was just using range scrap off ebay to make them, powder coat em. When loaded in my 30-30 it would not work to lube em as lube grooves are exposed. I know a 30-30 wont really shoot such a long bullet, unless it has a 1-8 twist barrel like mine does. My $50 fin mosin puts them in ragged groups as does the 30-30.

I tried them in my mosin at full power, but does not take much velocity past subsonic and the groups went from ragged to 6 in or more. So I gave linotype a try. The mosin now shoots the same groups at full power. 30gr of I4198 got me 1922fps. Not really that fast.

But I got 2590fps out of my 300 win mag w 60gr of H4350, thats min jacketed data. I only made a few to try to see how well they worked, and only had so much lino. And shot those 230gr just as well as it does jacketed, its a Savage 116 lefty. The 200gr Lyman w 63gr of H4350 got me 2783fps, same kind of accuracy. Will get some more lino and try them at longer range.

I run up to 200 gr using IMR 4895 and run up to and almost 200 fps faster than factory jacked bullets with 169 and 180 gr. In my guns both bolt (sub min) and AR10s, I had to add tin and copper to WW with some Super Hard to keep the bullets from coming apart at the higher velocities. This will probably be your first limit you hit.

Alloy matters even when powder coating. PC is not magical pixie dust that allows and overcomes sloppy casting in terms of uniformity, fit and alloy.

PC has it's place in my toolbox but it is an addition to my other tools and not a replacement for all the others. I have found that with plain base (PB) in riles I can increase the velocity of rifle loads when using PC and lube while maintaining accuracy. "No leading and shiny bore" is too often heard from the PC only folks but consistent accuracy is not mentioned often.

Bama has done some interesting work with PC in the .308. Find his thread and read it.
