For the past four years, anytime I had my 41 Bisley Hunter with me, I never saw a deer. My luck finally changed this year when this guy came within 25 yards of my blind. He didn't take another step. Load was MP 41-265 FP GC with 18.6 grains of H4227. Not a spectacular shot, not a spectacular deer, but very exciting and good meat in the freezer. Thanks to many members here for sharing the knowledge that I put to good use to make it happen.

Super Job! I have taken a few Does and 4 Bucks with my Contenders. I look forward to taking a good deer with my Freedom Arms .454.

Congrats on a fine deer. They're all trophys with a handgun. Nice shooting. My feelings exactly! Great job!

CHSparkman, I am going to have to get a Ruger "hunter" model revolver soon, as the iron-sighted handguns I hunt with are getting harder to see the sights clearly.

I have scoped T/C contenders, but still prefer the revolvers.

Nicely done! I have the same pistol and have only taken a pair of young GA hogs with it. Hope to do better in the future.

Greetings and well done CH !
Hand guns are a whole new world to pop corn crunchers with. And a caliber 41 to boot ! One of my favorites !

Nicely done.

A dead deer = a dead deer!

I thought the TC's would quench my thirst for handgun hunting. Nope. It's like drinking cola after eating some hot peppers. I can't hardly stand not having a ruger single action in 41. It's going to be the bees knees when it happens.

Thanks for enabling!!! :)

Any deer that you get with a pistol is a trophy in my book. Good eatin there.

I am so envious. Been trying to get one in front of my Ruger 44Spec Flattop this season myself. Congratulations, you earned and deserve it.

Congrats on a fine deer. Is that a SBH Hunter? I've got one in 45 Colt; great gun. I've taken a couple of bucks and a doe with it. Last year was lucky enough to take a doe with a 1911 (MiHec 454423 HP). Handgun hunting is a lot of fun. But you already know that.:drinks:

Congrats! Any deer with a handgun is a trophy!

I have a similar problem- my Ruger SRH .480 is very effective deer repellent. Every time I take it into the woods the deer leave the county. Maybe next year.

Congrats! I don't really have a "hunting" handgun, but my 6" S&W 586 would probably work well for it.

Not a spectacular shot, not a spectacular deer

I would disagree on both counts. You put the boolit where it needed to be...great shot. You took a fine eating animal using a handgun that added a higher degree of difficulty. Every time you fix a meal with that excellent tasting meat you'll be reliving the hunt. I'd say that is the definition of spectacular. Great job.

Well done and congratulations!

The last deer I killed was with my Ruger SRH + 4X Leuold with a 320gr SSK cast boolit over Win 296. That's been several years ago. Getting a long-eye-relief scope aligned so it will "light up" while you've got a case of buck fever is an accomplishment. Holding it still to make the shot is still another accomplishment.

Any deer popped with a hunting revolver can be considered a Trophy, especially the first one!

Gives you a Handgun hunting fever!

I am going to have to get a Ruger "hunter" model revolver soon

I've been saying that myself for years.
My obsession was for the model in 45 LC.
I ended up spending a fortune and getting two.

The good handgun kills come from getting where the woods is really thick and hard to get through, you find some trails and try to get up a tree overlooking the trails or put up a stand that gives you good elevation. Pick a spot over trails that converge, make sure you have a couple of clear shooting lanes, and just enjoy being in the woods and they will walk right under your tree many times. If you want to make SURE you get a handgun kill, carry a rifle with you and lay it across your lap that'll usually do it for sure..

Every deer I take with my handgun is a trophy because it takes a little more practice and skill than a rifle. I'm kind of cheating with an 18" barreled .357 Max, but it still doesn't have a buttstock! Good shooting and enjoy the eats!

That's awesome, congratulations. I absolutely love that revolver. I have a SBH Hunter in .44 Mag that has been one of my favorite guns. It took me a couple seasons before I got any big game with a handgun. I finally had to put the rifles up and only hunt with the handguns to get one. The first time I got one with a revolver was with my SBH Hunter using cast. Great combo and keep it up! Handgun hunting is super fun and addicting and it's made that much more special using your own cast bullets.

They're not all trophies. My first handgun deer was a button buck that had a crippled front leg so was "mercy killed." As I sat in the second row of a shelterbelt, he came into the outside row. My Super Blackhawk did the job at a distance of no more than 20 feet.

Glad this came back up. Again Congratulations now that you've had a chance to eat some venison, how does it taste?
You'll treasure those memories forever.:-D
