I have a few pounds of range lead I have been collecting. I am going to start working on some conicals for my muzzleloaders. Is range lead soft enough for my front stuffers.

I don't own an tester. [smilie=1:

Sure you do. If you can scratch it easily with your thumbnail, it should be soft enough.

If there are a lot of commercial cast bullets in your scrap, it may be pretty hard. Jacketed bullet cores are nearly pure, so if you have a lot of jacketed bullets, I'd melt them out and use that. Just try to keep the soft and hard scrap separated and you should be okay.

90% are jacketed. only a few are cast. gotta remember to sort them out.

Just go to eBay and search for soft lead ingots. I just recieved 40+lbs. @ $39.99 plus shipping...$50.94 about a $1.27 per pound shipped.
It'll hold me a while.

I got some pure soft lead from ebay and it reads 22 BHN on my cabbin tree tester. It was so hard it would make great centerfire bullets but you can't pound them down a ML. Be careful what you get from ebay. Ron

I don't really like ebay, I may have bought like 3 things in 10 yrs off there.

i think I will hunt for lead right now. little cheaper on even with gas prices. $50 shipped is what I put in my truck every 2 weeks.
