Yes, the Type 45 being the Siamese 8mm Rimmed cartridge, and the rifle being known as the R.S. 121 which translates to Mod. 1903. Many have been converted to .45-70. Sometimes it takes some tinkering with the feed lips in the walls of the receiver to get them to feed properly, and it's not a job for a first time project unless assisted by someone who has done several.

E.R Shaw does the Siamese to 45/70 also has their own barrel to fit your Action.

I built one a long time ago with a Navy Arms barrel. Started with Elmer Keith's top load with a 405 gr. and went up from there. 100 yard groups were 1 1/2 to 2 inches, wish I still had it. There wasn't much needed on the feed rails, more a polish job than anything.

It was a beast to shoot off the bench though.

If Cub45 doesn't take it I may have a friend that is interested. I haven't spoke with him in a couple of months but last we talked he was looking for one.

A very high quality action. I bought a complete rifle mail order for $18.95 in 1976. Rebarreled to 30-40 Krag with McGowan barrel. Some days it kept up accuracy wise with my 788. It's still filling the freezer for a friend's family down on the border. Best, Thomas.

I bought one many years ago that had been converted to 45-70 using a Douglas barrel. A friend gave me gave me a box of Winchester 45-70s using a 300 grain bullet. As has been pointed out, it is not to be shot from the bench. I have only been able to get 12 of the factory rounds fired. A friend has offered to take it to Arizona this week and shoot the remaining 8. I only want the brass. My rifle is not a light weight but it does kick. I suppose if a mad grizzly were charging you would not notice but trying to shoot a small group from the bench is pure punishment.

I'm waiting for a response on a PM. If he doesn't take it, you are in line.

The comb on that stock looks to be on the low side, so it would give you a good smack. I fitted my stock to suit me, with a cheek piece and high, forward slope comb. Mounted a 4x Leopold Compact on it. Factory loads felt like powder puff loads then.

A friend, who was built like a brick outhouse, tried it offhand at 100 yards with my top load. That guy was like a walking vice when he shot, he started with a cinder block, then cleaned up the leftovers. Mind you, there ain't a lot of leftovers after that first one hits. My load was approaching bottom end .458 Mag.

The Siamese Mauser is very strong for 45-70 some guy have loaded at 458 mags spec. The weak point of the 45-70 in the Siamese is the brass. They were made in Japan with good steel. Some claim some were made in Germany ?
