I really haven't had the desire to hunt since my dad passed in 2013. When I was growing up, we always went hunting Thanksgiving morning while mom cooked Thanksgiving dinner. Sometimes for squirrel, most times for deer.

I started to get the "want to" this year, but it's been so dang hot. I typically didn't hunt until the first frost or at least as it was cool enough to get rid of the bugs.

It was a little warmer than I wanted this morning but decided to seize the opportunity and go for a morning hunt in honor of my father. I got up a bit later than I wanted, but made it out. As I was walking to my small field I hunt, I spooked 4 does. I dropped down and was able to get one in my sights. A nice 75 yard broad side shot presented and I took it. All the deer just trotted away. It was still becoming light, but within legal shooting times. I went over to where I thought I shot the deer and didn't see anything. No blood, hair, etc. Confident of my shot, I just sat down for a little bit until it was a little more light. I watched over the field for about 1-1/2 to 2 hours. It was getting a touch warm, so I decided to look again and if nothing, call it a day.

I reinvestigated the area and found some blood which turned into a lot more and about 50 yards into the woods, I found a nice NW GA doe (read small). She was probably 110-120 on the hoof at best.

The NOE 235gr WFN slug was sized to .411" and lubed with Randy Rat's Tac1 launched with 17gr IMR 4227. The rifle is a Henry Steel Big Boy in 41 Mag topped with a Bushnell 3500 Elite 3x9x40.

Got her quartered and processed in the fridge. Fresh back strap soaking in buttermilk and will pan fry some up here in a little bit.

Hope Dad is looking down smiling on my family today. I sure miss him every day, especially on days like today.

I'm sure your dad is pleased that you are carrying on the tradition. Congrats on your successful hunt.
I really want to take one with my 41 Marlin this year.

Of my grandpa.. I grew up with him and he thought me so much..
He passed away so many years ago and I still remember every moment I shared with him, trough the years I followed his steps and done it with my kid, I noticed that sometimes he reminds me of grandpa, I guess I did a good job following my dad's tradition.
Days like thus are sad somehow because we miss our lost ones, but they never leave us, they live in our hearts and minds..
