Just thought I'd give you a heads up, if anyone is looking for a Marlin 336 Texan there is one for $299.00 in a local shop. It looks to have honest hunting wear, I would guesstimate around 90% original finish. Action is nice and tight. Currently wearing a newish Simmons scope and see-through mounts, which you could probably flip on Gunbroker or Fleabay for $40.00. The leaf of the rear sight is missing. The shop is Mike's Guns in Frankfort, KY and they are happy to ship or talk trades. Their telephone number is 502-223-8120.

I don't stand to benefit from the sale in any way, I would just like to see the rifle go to a good home.

Thanks for the heads up! My father has a Marlin 336 in 30-30, and I always wanted one. They said it wasn't a Texan when I called, but identified it with the straight stock and square loop.

I'm stoked for it, but I suspect my wife will not be when she finds out I bought it [smilie=1:

Great, hope it works out for you. "Texan" wasn't put on the rifle but was used in Marlin catalogs as a nickname. I love mine, which was purchased from the same shop. Great folks to deal with!

BTW, the best way to preserve domestic harmony and grow your collection are through saving up for guns in a secret place and layaway.;-)

I took full advantage of their layaway. I'll use Christmas as my excuse. She did just tell me yesterday to buy for myself... :bigsmyl2:

I'm definitely excited for it. I loved shooting my dad's 336, which I believe was made in the 80's.

As I remember, the first two digits of the serial were 23, meaning it is a 1977 model. The time period mid-60's to about the mid-80's seems to be when Marlin was at it's best. All of mine were made in that time and I love 'em!

You remember correctly! It indeed had the first two digits 23. I have no doubt I will enjoy this gun :D

I picked one up just before rifle season to replace another 336 that was stolen a few years back. Handy gun that I plan on taking on plenty of hunting outings.

Mine is a 1976 model and wears a Lyman 66 receiver sight. It's going hunting with me tomorrow morning.:drinks:

The 336 Texan is as nimble as a Winchester 94 and probably more accurate in my opinion. It's my favorite 336 variation. Best, Thomas.

Yep, same here. Since I got my Texan I haven't missed my 94 at all!

Almost took a nice doe with the Texan today, she bolted before the rifle was even at my shoulder. Gonna go again tomorrow.

It was going to a good home...
I saw it last week and sold another rifle just yesterday so I could buy it. I guess I was meant to get something else.
Ya lucked out Electric 88. ;-)
Just like the deals on here...stop to go pee and somebody snatches it.

I'm not completely crushed...I picked up a first year 336 back in the summer. Been casting and powder coating this fall so when cold weather sets in I can wring it out. Cold thins 'em out at the range ;-)

Aww man, I feel like I should at least apologize! Sorry I snatched it out from under you!

Not a problem, no apologies needed....just means I wasn't supposed to have it. Hope you enjoy it...it's a nice piece. I'm sure I can "re-invest" that money on tang sights...buttstock sleeve... you know...stuff. ;-)

I'm glad to hear multiple people say it's in good condition. Normally I'm leery about buying sight unseen.

And yeah, whenever I have that happen where something disappears before I get to it and I'm not meant to have it, the money always gets reinvested lol

Yes, I love my 461, it's a great little revolver. Now, Rossi has made alot of junk over the years and the consensus is that you are more likely to have a good experience with the IRS than their service department so I don't necessarily love Rossi!
