Hello fellow cast shooters,
I haven't been around much lately due to the hunting season. And, what a good one its been.
I kicked off the season with an Antelope hunt in Wyoming. While not a cast boolit hunt, it was a first and an awesome trip for me. Got a nice buck.

Now that I'm back home, I've been concentrating on whitetail. I've passed several 2 1/2 year old bucks during bow season as I've gotten a couple of dandy ones on my cameras. But, yesterday I decided to take my "new to me-this year" Marlin 45-70. I'm shooting accurate 460405's with gas checks. It shoots really well too. But, I keep my range under 100yds due to the peep sights and my not so young eyes :)
Well I decided that I was tired of passing deer and I really wanted to take one with lever gun. So, my bolt gun stayed in the truck. I feel that I hadn't built any confidence yet with the gun and was simply afraid of missing with iron sights. Regardless of this, I was able to drop two deer within 5 minutes. I had a pack of 5 does come out and I took the big lead doe. Then, a few minutes later I saw movement and this 2 1/2 year old buck was dogging a doe. I said heck, that's a trophy to me and would mean more to take it with the lever gun. So, at 80 yds I got him to stop and squeezed off a shot. Nice double lung hit. He went 50 yds and piled up. Ironically enough, both deer ended up within 20 yds of each other. What a hole punched through them
It was a nice day, but long night of skinning of quartering :)
BTW, my confidence is now built! Animals beware of the "Sledge Hammer"
