I sold my blued one for $500 a few years ago, I was broke and it didn't shoot as good as it looked . I believe that the one's like in the pic , target hammer, trigger, pinned barrel, and all will bring $700 often in the right place. I believe 1974 or 75 was when they started on the 27-3 ? Nice buy !! Good luck James

Bill--

$429 is a fine price--ya did GOOD!

There was a time for about 7-8 years I did without a S&W N-frame example. Feeling quite culturally deprived by this condition, when a member here offered a Model 624 x 6.5"--I decided to give it a good home (mine). In the intervening years, a Model 657 x 6" and pre-27 357 Magnum x 6.5" have found a home in the safe. They WILL NOT be leaving, until my rotten daughters and evil nephews do a throw-down to decide on their next lodging after I clip the mortal coil. I enjoy K-frame and L-frame Smiths very much, but there is NOTHING like an N-frame.

This begs the question........which N-frames will follow? Maybe a better question and easier to answer would be 'which ones won't?' I have a pretty good collection of the rifles I use, more than I need to be honest. Shotguns? OY VEY, too many! The medium-frame revos and service/sport stutterpistols are well-represented........but a few more N-frames and one REALLY GOOD 30-06 will be sought after. Onceabull, you know what I mean. A 4" Model 29 or 629 would be very nice, as would some 45 ACP revo variant--the 4" 625 dash whatever leading the list.

Oh my. I have two of the new 625-8s. One I had a bid on at GunBroker and the other I ran into at a local shop. I made the assumption that I would not get this one for what I offered, so I bought the one at the shop while it was on a weekend sale. Low and behold, I won the second.

The bad one (off the Internet) is driving me nuts shoots 1 1/2" groups at 35 yards, but it leads up badly after 100 rounds so that groups open to over 2".

These guns (with AR brass) are truely the finest guns made to shoot lead with smokeless that I ever had my hands on. No issues with powder positioning or ignition. No grip issues to deal with. Total shooting flexibility. The other one (purchased new) is soooooo accurate, right out of the box, that I will forgo mentioning group sizes lest I lose even more credibility than I have over the years. But 100 shots later and it doesn't look as if it has been fired anywhere and you don't have to walk down range to see the groups.

I would have to endorse this as your next purchase. Problem with that is, you will look at everything differently from now on.

Bass--

Just about ever 625 owner goes poetic and lyrical over these revolvers. I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out against this onslaught of pleasantry.

+1

I concur (1978)

A very highly sought after model. Factory nickle adds 25% to the value. Only thing is that the bbl lenght may make it less desirable.

In my view you stole it.

Pictures, we must have detailed pictures of the front, sides, rear of pistol and grips)

Congrats, nice find!

Early model 27's and pre 27's were/are some of the finest revolvers ever made...

From the finely checkered top straps,

to the deep blued finish,

http://www.fototime.com/DCC1857B6236988/orig.jpg

to the "bank vault" feel when you close or roll one over!

I have two of them, and they both are VERY accurate and well made.

Al;
You have put it off long enough! Just blow some of the cob webs out of that wallet and order a 625[smilie=1:. It will be the second most fun thing you can do!!

I have a goodly number of fine, good shootin' revolvers. I have NOTHING that is as easy to work up a championship load as my two 625's. Just apply any sensible recipe and the guns SHOOT! It's about the most fun I have had since I started shooting.

I will hit the range again in the morning. I'll be thinkin' kindly of you while I am enjoying the day...

A coven of rank, sorry enablers, all o' y'all.

I was out listening to the Angels get their a--es handed to them (again) and refilling some 250 Savage fodder to ease the pain of onlooking their Michael Jackson bit--a glove on one hand for no discernable purpose. I shut that down--come inside to seek solace on the site--and see this sort of "encouragement". Tough crowd here.

Actually i only have one 27, as the other one is before they were called 27's, and were just called 357 magnums back then... :-D

Gun porn!!!! That nickle 27 is pure gun porn.

The M-25- Jeeze I want one, not one of those stinkin' 625's either. God intended for men to use BLUED guns, not those stinkin' silver thangs. Guy at work buys whatever he likes, and he likes Smiffs. He's got a mess of N frames. Won't let me touch them anymore do to the rust from the sweaty palms and drooling.

Having been without a .357 for a while I had forgtten how much fun reaching way out to touch distant rocks without rattling my cage can be. A recently added 8 3/8" blue and beautiful 27-2 has made the older to me 8 3/8" 629 jealous. To get the 27 I had to promise that my stepson Jaremy will inherit it, I wonder what he was doing under my truck?

Used gun prices are out of this world now and 400 won't normally do it, in these here parts anyway. You got lucky- especially if the picture you posted is near the quality of the one that you actually found.

Go out and visit your local toys stores more often. Most likely you'll go home in shock. If that don't do it, price some factory ammo.

The S&W model 27 was/is a great target pistol. It came with 6"or 8 3/8" bbl and a nice fat target tigger and target hammer. It had a brother called the M28 that came with 4" and 6 " barrel and a blued and not as fancy finish, plus the name was different; it was known as "The Highway Patrolman". it didn't have the target trigger or hammer; those were dubbed "combat grade" and came "stock". You could swap that combo for the target stuff as the specs were identical. The 4 incher didn't reach quite as far-as well as the longer barreled versions, but whether it was a 27 or a 28 didn't really matter; they could all shoot like all get out, digesting .357 Magnanimous or 38 Specials with round noses, Semiwads, or full wads in every shape or configuration. Those guns are/were really solidly built, rugged and accurate. No BS in the quality control department! If you come across one in good shape, just write the check/flash the plastic if you can do so. They're real treasures. LLS
