Has anyone tried using those colored silicone molds used for making cupcakes and whatever else for casting lead ingots?

They would seem ideal if they would hold up. They make those things in an amazing array of designs...and they're cheap, won't rust and won't break...but will they handle 700 degree lead?

Try carrying a silicone mold filled with lead ingots from point A to point B sometime. Unless you can afford enough of them to just pour and leave setting until they cool, I'd think they'd be a pain in the patoot!

If the mold is sitting on a board or something...you would move the board around, not really moving the mold. I agree, it would be way too flexible move with hot lead cooling in it.

Most of those silicone muffin pan can only withstand up to 550 degrees. It will usually tell you on the label.

Never tried them with lead. Love them for 250-300 degree lye soap from scratch.

I suspect they would deform under the weight and pour half melted lead on the floor.

Keep em for muffins and use your old steel muffin tin's.

Get steel ones or tinned steel. Put some muriatic acid in them and let them sit and rust good. Nothing will stick

I think that's an experiment I would rather observe than perform!
