180948The top deer is my cast boolet deer. I was barely in the stand 10 minutes last Saturday morning. I was so worried about right alloy, ac or wd, fn or hp, too fast, and finding an accurate load in my M48, shooting under 20 yards, it didn't matter a whit! So I have a Leo 2.5 IER scope mounted on an S & K base(self modified, works better), an Accurate 33-205T fn at about 11 bhn, ac, propelled at about 1850 fps. She was going up a creek bank, angling away from me, shot was high in the chest cavity, coming out the opposite shoulder, drt on the spot. The fork under her in the pic stumbled by one of my fellow hunters, unable to use his rear legs(assumed he had been shot by another hunter). We went back a couple of hours later, he was still trying to crawl away, when I finished him off with a friend's Colt 45. When we butchered him last night we found an infected wound, possibly from an arrow along his spine, that didn't penetrate his chest. Most of the meat appeared fine, just stayed away from the infected areas. It was over too quick, now to look forward to black powder season in a couple of weeks. Flyer180955

Good on you. You discovered that it really doesn't pay to overthink this stuff. Those boolits won't bounce off deer. Enjoy the eating.

Good job ! And a good quote above more shooting and less overthinking the little things . Even minimal expansion with a too hard alloy than optimal or speed little too fast or slow will still make two nice holes in an animal and won't go far if in the vitals .
