For a single shot handi-rifle.

I have some 170 grain gas checked boolits.
They shoot best in my other 30 calls at around 1600-1850 fps.

Have lots of powder choices on hand and at the local general store.

I would look at H110 as you probably already have it in stock. That is what I used with a 165 gr. about 1800 fps to kill a good sized doe. I don't have my load notes handy.

18gr AA1680 with Lyman 311413 175gr at 1900fps with a 20" barrel.
Sorry I don't have more personal load data for your requested weight as I kept most of my 300BLK loads under 147gr because I preferred to keep them supersonic.

If you want to run a jacketed load, I'd recommend 16.4gr of H110 with a 150gr 30-30 RN bullet (1950fps)or that same 18gr of AA1680 for 2300fps with a 125gr jacketed spirepoint Hornady bullet. Both of these loads have successfully hammered cull deer with a friend of mine in NY.

Make sure you alloy is soft enough to expand I made that mistake two years later I am still kicking myself in the butt it was a very nice buck.

clearwater,

I run 17.7 of Reloder 7 for both the Lee 155 and the NOE 311-196 in the BLK AR's for what it's worth.

I shoot 18.8 of 110/296 with 130 jacketed in single shot pistol. 110/296 will probably get you there but I strongly suspect that 4227 or 5744 would work as well or better without spanking the Boolit as hard. I have had plans to try the 165 RD with 4198 just to see how it acts in an 11" pistol but no round tuit yet,,,,,.

4227 is another good powder in the AAC.
I have been using 9.5grs of AA#9 with 165gr boolits in my 7 twist 300 AAC bolt gun with good 50-100yd accuracy. [1 to 1-1/2"]
if the boolit I was using had a good flat point and my shots were within that distance it would be a good choice for me.
if I wanted a bit more distance then a 130gr sierra spritzer on top of 2400 or AA-4100 would surely do the job to 150yds.

Just got this from Pete from Carolinabrass.net
Hi Peter!Just got your order, which will ship out tomorrow morning since I already made my post office run today, so I'll send tracking info then. I personally load (The 150g/IMR4227 powder/bullet combo is my go-to range plinking round)Load Data - (The following is tested load data from 8.2" & 9" AAC Rifles... However, I recommend ladder testing so you get the perfect load for your gun, this data is my own and is on the higher end of the charge data)
"Plinking Bullets" - Hornady 150g FMJ's (the Cannelure is a bit high on them when loaded to COL but they are cheap and easy to load) They are great cheap plinking/ general purpose rounds. I load them with 16.0g of IMR4227 and a COL or 2.10-2.20 should do you right. I like them around 2.10" for my rifle in particular, they seemed to feed best there.
Sierra 125 Matchking- 17.9g H110 @ 2.21" OAL
Barnes Tac-TX 110g - 19.0g H110 @ 2.25" OAL <----- This is the most popular and generally accepted as the best deer/hog hunting round for blackout.

That sounds like a winning load. I use the Lee 170flat nose which drops about 180gr and 15 gr of IMR4227 pushes it at 1550fps. Your 170s at 16gr should be 1600-1700. My load has 5 deer under its belt, can't wait to hear how yours does.

My boys and I have killed a pile of deer with a 110gr vmax and 19.0gr H110. The vmax at the slower speeds does not blow up on impact and does massive damage and almost always exits unless maybe you shoot through both shoulders or something like that. Shot behind the shoulders of large northern Missouri buck will exit with a good size hole and will not usually go over 30yds.

I'm using the Lee 150gr FNGC (158gr) over AA1680 in AR. ~1,750fps. My older brother, nephew, and I've killed several deer with this mold from .30/30's over the years. It's a proven killer.

IF you go jacketed, 125 gr seems to be the sweet spot (110 gr is good too). You need enough velocity to get expansion.
We've had fantastic luck with Hornady SST 125 with 17.3 gr H-110 and CCI 450s. We nicknamed ours "the deer hammer."
