I'm so happy with Hi-Tek that I'm going to try it on my 45/70, 45/100 and 450 Nitro Express single shot Sharps rifles. I'd like to know if the coating is legal for most competitions. I suspect it isn't but if anyone knows....

"High Tech" coating does not work with black powder as the gun will foul out in a few shots. It may or may not work if you use smokeless powder BUT; Big Hill and Ekalaka/Medicine Rocks in eastern Montana and Sentinel Butte in western North Dakota do not alow the coated bullets in their matches. I don't think Quigley allows it either.

Well I wish you luck trying. Just remember someone had to try it before finding out if it works, I think you'll have problems with fouling, but you could try adding a little lube to the coated bullets for controlling the fouling issues.

The Hi-Tek will doubtless work fine as a coating BUT you will still need a lube with BP. Without that, as has been said you will quickly foul the barrel.

That all makes sense. I didn't put together what lube actually does in a black powder gun...only part of it is about leading.

Quigley does allow it, along with smokeless powder. The only specific is no gas checks.

I'm really keen on a .459 500gn+ postell style mold with slick sides just for Hitek coating in my sharps. Get the benefits of a higher bc paperpatch slick sided bullet without the hassle of wrapping bullets. I started a group buy discussion at noe hoping we can get enough people interested to get it into production. http://noebulletmolds.com/smf/index.php/topic,1789.0.html
