A freind inherited a 50/70 trap door rifle .
He wants to shoot it .
I looked at it and it's rifling is OK but not great with some pitting .
He ask me to cast up some bullets .
He scronged 19 cases and a set of dies .
Being cheap as he is , he hoped I had a mold to use.
I have a TC 370 gr Maxi and a Maxi Hunter mold for the front stuffer .
I would cast them out of 40-1 .
I was thinking of reaming out a old sizing die to size a few to .510 or what ever the rifle slugs out to , or the max the chamber will allow .
The Maxi should hold enough lube . [smilie=l:

I looked up loading data and found a start load of 27 gr of AA5744 with a 425 gr bullet ( I have 5744 )

I dought he will shoot it much , so he wants to do this as cheap as possible .

Do you think this will work ?
Any other ideas

Does your mold cast them big enough? My only compairson is a Lee REAL bullet and the biggest diameter I can find is .510. You might have to lap out a mould to get that big of a slug.

Have to check the bore and hope .
My Maxi mold drops .510 front band , to .507 at the base .
I will load them un sized and see how it shoots .
I will not lap the mold for the few he plans on shooting .

If not big enough he will buy one of LEE's .515 molds for the 50 cal rifles

Well after casting several different ML bullets and trying them in the 50/70 .
Best group was 12" at 50 yds
Most were 24" or more

I told him if he wants to shoot it buy more cases and a mold .
I showed him the 2 Lee sells
