Does anyone know how to train a dog to lure in coyotes to the rifle? I have seen videos on YouTube and it looks like a winning proposition.

I'd think any little yappy dog would pull them in thinking free meal.

There are people on the forum Predatormasters.com that hunt with dogs. There is or was a lot of discussion on there when I was on there.

I've often read of it working the other way around, that a coyote lures a dog to the waiting pack...

No doubt it could be done though. Turning the trap around so the hunters become the hunted.

The dogs work better during the denning season. You can also, buy them started. You can plug around on some trapping forums,as well.

Reminds me of the opening scene of Enemy At The Gates- except they used a horse to bait the wolves. Didn't turn out well for the horse! I would rather use a cat because I love dogs.....
Just hope that you are quicker than a hungry coyote or you will need another fido.

I was unaware of the practice. After looking at a few vids I would say the only moral thing to do would be to hunt with at least a pair of dogs and you better be a damn good shot.

I'm not opposed to using dogs to hunt, I've run hogs at night with dogs myself, it's just that I can see a single dog being killed rather easily if you've got coyote packs like we do here.

Dog in heat urine is an excellent wolf and coyote attractant. It does require that you hunt the same area for several days straight.

I agree! Those tiny dogs are worthless anyway, and they can't climb a tree like a cat to get away.

They use females as they seem to trick the male everytime. HUMMM sounds familuar to me. There have been a couple people around here that use chickens. They set the chicken under a milk crate then they tie a string to the chickens neck or the leg. They anchor the crate down good and get back a ways and when they want the chicken to cackle they jerk on the string. The yote raise their heads up above the weeds in the pasture and you just shoot a little lower. You'll get by with this a couple times then you have to change your ways.

There is just something about prys barking and fighting with coyotes yelping and wining that make a farmer smile.

A cat in a cage and a vice grip work wonders.
