Lyman makes two different .45 rifle "M" dies. The 7349064 is listed for .45-60 and .45-75 and the 7349053 is list for .450 Marlin, .45-70, and .45-90.

What is the difference in these two dies and would either work for .458 SOCOM?

IIRC the only difference between the .45-60 and .45-70 cases is length, the shorter -60 is 1.89" and the -70 is 2.1". That being the case, I would buy the one that is closest to your Socom's length.

The issue is both length and case body diameter. The .45-70 die is a non starter because of the SOCOM having a larger body diameter and cannot enter the die. The other die is for both the .45-60 and .45-75. Both are shorter than the .45-70 and closer to .458 SOCOM length. More importantly, the .45-75 case body has even larger diameter than the .458 SOCOM so the SOCOM can enter the die properly. I figured this out after my original post and bought the .45-60/.45-75 "M" die. I've been using it and it works great for the SOCOM.

Glad it worked out for you. I knew the 45-75 was larger in diameter than the .45-60, but didn't know about the SOCOM. Reason I never mentioned it was that all of my M-dies have more than enough clearance between the case and the die wall.
