OK
Newbie with the proverbial stupid question...(I have searched and searched and have not found anything helpful)
Does anyone know of a mold out there .309-.311 dia 123-30gr spitzer?
I am looking for a mold to play around with powder coated 300Blk supers. There are a couple 150gr+ molds but nothing in the lighter weight that I can find. A request to Lee got me the form letter "Thanks for your request, we will add it to the pile of requests".
Thanks for your time

Try NOE ~ the 0.314" x 129 gr. it is a bit larger than you want but could likely be sized down to 0.310" if lubed first.

Also Lyman makes the 311359 at 115 grs. and 311410 (semi spitzer) at 130 grs. and RCBS makes the 7.62MM-130-SPL 554.
One of those should suit your needs.

I use the 311410. It is plain based with a single lube groove. Shoots fine from my 30-30. My mold drops at .311 (and shoots with just tumble lube without sizing and no leading). Can also, of course be sized down some. Haven't tried with powder coating but it looks like it could work.

it works well in the bolt guns.
the AR's have a throat to consider and stuff that will chamber in one 300 won't in another.
of the three [2 bolt and one AR] I have played with only the jacketed loads have transferred over 100%.

Seeing this thread made me think of an old cramer mold I have that I hardly ever use. It a 2-cavity mold with 1 cavity being a 125gr sp and the other cavity is a hp version of that same bullet that weighs 115gr.

They make a good plinking bullet when pc'd. A 10-shot group from a 308 bolt action with the cramer #50's that were powder coated with no gas check.

This bullet was designed for the m1 carbine but actually does extremely well in the 308's & 30-06's. Should do well in a 300bo.

Thank you all! I really appreciate the information
My gun is an AR15 pistol which is why I was asking about spitzers. Looks like I will need to do some more saving of the pennies to get one of these suggested molds.
Thank you again.

I have this mold and it is a great all around light weight plinker, small game boolit. Mine drops at about 130 gr. with # 2 alloy. It was actually designed for the 30 Carbine.

If you want a top notch 311410 mould go to MIHEC's site to see if he has any left. There was just a rerun group buy on that boolit mould. It is a brass Cramer style mould with large HP pins, small HP pins and solid.

I went with the 316410 (same boolit, just fatter) and my .303's like it. Oh wait, you are using it in semi-auto? If so then the MIHEC version may not work well. We had a full diameter band of 0.100" added to the nose in front of the crimp groove. Good for single shot and bolt action but may affect chambering in your AR. And I see you want to powder coat so the nose will definitely be too big.

It is a standard Lyman mould though so available from Lyman in solid only (and with no full diameter band outside the brass).
