CFE-223 in cartridges other than .223

Anybody do any testing with this powder in other .22CF's, .30-30. .30-06, etc.?

It worked great in .308 for my nephew in his FN Police Rifle. Several .20"-.30" 3shot groups @ 100 yds with Sierra 175 MatchKing. I want to try it in 22-250 and .358 win sometime. Best,Thomas.

I've found that any powder that does well in the 223 will also do well in the 308 Winchester. CFE 223 may be a bit fast in larger capacity cases with small bores.

A check of the powder's web site should a more authorative answer.

I've tried CFE 223 in my M1 Garand (30-06) . 49 grains under 150 grain FMJ/BT got me 2650 fps. Shot fine but wasn't any better than 4064.

I use it in the 250 savage.
probably get around to giving it a go in the 243 next spring.

never thought about trying it in the 223.

When I looked at it a while back it has similar uses as varget.

I've used it in 16" AR-10 308 with great results. Under max load giving me higher velocities than varget with Max loads. Accuracy is .75" for 5 shot groups.

I've used the 155gr sierra palma match king to shoot that group but I've also used the powder with the 165 game king and was able to shoot under an inch 5 shot groups. If I were shooting 3 shot groups they would be tighter. My AR-10 has a light weight barrel and heats up fast. The first three are always close to under .5"

I'm going to help a youngster get started in reloading. He has 223 AR and M1A scout with a short barrel. I was thinking CFE 223 would be a good all purpose powder for both rifles. Your results confirm that.

I have 8lb. of it intending to use it in 5.56x45mm NATO with 62gr. FMJ. Digging around the Hodgdon and Realguns loading sites, I see it's very useful in about any cartridge based on the .308 Winchester on down. I even found very good data for .30/06 using the lighter bullets 150gr. and down. It seems to excel IMR 4064 and Varget in some applications by a good bit, like the .223, equal or slightly better them in the .308-.30/06 with lighter/medium bullets, and lag behind in the larger capicty cartridges when heavier bullets are used.

It seems to shine in the .223 and do at least as well as IMR4064, Varget, and W748 in medium capacity cartridges like the .308. I don't see it listed in the .30/06 past a 165gr. bullet where it begins to lag behind other powders in it's class.

Over-all it seems to be a very useful powder for many applications, but I bought it for .223/5.56x45mm and will probably confine it's use to the smaller round as I have good loads developed for both the .30/06 and .308 using other powders I already have a good stock of, and I ain't gitti'n any younger.

If you're going to use it in .223 you should be loading 55gr or heavier bullets. At that is what I have been told as well as read.

My shooting buddy uses it in 7.62X54r with Nosler Custom Comp 168gr JHPs. He likes it a lot and always seems to be looking for more!!

8x57, oh yeah! Accuracy and speed 175 Sierra Pro Hunter or 185 Remington Core-Lokt ....head and shoulders above any powder I've ever found. Use published loads, you don't have to get fancy to get outstanding results.

I'm going to be picking up some for use in my new 22 Nosler AR upper. It appears to be the go-to powder for it.
