Lyman CB handbook lists a 204 grain boolit with a 22.5 start load to 28 max with IMR 4227, and 25 star load to 30.5 max of IMR 4198.

Try 29.0 gr. 4198 or 26.5gr. 4227. Both should get you very close to 1800 fps. (RCBS 200, 22 inch barrel)

Thanks, that is what I needed to know. Just something in the 35 rem range.

IMR4227---- 22.5gr (1615fps) to 28.0gr (1967fps)
IMR4198---- 25.0gr (1643fps) to 30.5gr (1981fps)
Velocities were from a 24" barrel with a 204gr Lyman #358315.

With that settled, does anyone have something for a 185gr cast using IMR4198? I've started out with 32gr but haven't had time to do any real testing. Apologies if this steps on your thread.

No apologies needed, I am interested in cast loads as well. Just received a Lee 200 gr mould for a Birthday present , looking for loads for it as well.

Hi all, thought I'd put this out again. Anyone have a good 180gn to 185gn cast load with IMR4198?

I'd drop down to 30 grains to get around 1800 fps. YMMV. If you don't have one get a Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook for sure. Great cartridge!

The best laid plans of mice and men........now I'm framing up to pour a slab for hen house. Wife happens. Still planning to load those .358s. Best, Thomas.

I loaded 4 RCBS 200gr(217grs my alloy) with 38 grs IMR 3031. At 50yds I pulled the first shot then cut a crescent with the next three. All four were 1". My tennis elbow is healing so I hope to cast again soon. (that's why I only had four boolits). So far I like this load in my .358! Best,Thomas.

I don't know the velocity of my 39gr IMR3031/200gr RCBS load. I've been shooting at an indoor 100M range and nothing is allowed downrange of the benches.
