I am on the cusp of starting to reload (now accumulating equipment) and have a chance to get 3 lbs of either SR7625 or SR4765--powder is free, & owner won't give it all to one person.

I understand these are pistol/shotgun powders. I plan on reloading: 38spcl, 38super, 9mm Ultra (PP Super), 9mmPara, 9mmLargo & 45ACP. I also want to try some light cast loads for 8MM,'06, & 7.62x54R.

Which would be best ? I don't plan on reloading for shotgun--

OT-is this a new castboolits?? I used to be a member, but needed to register before I could post--guess I haven't been here for awhile!

Thank you in advance for your help/advice--

It is SR 4756, not 4765, and it is a tad slower than the 7625. I suppose you could make a case for either powder, but if I were in your position, I'd take the SR 7625, it is closer to Unique than the other one.

Scrounger--My bad on the powder #!! Thank you for the quick response--even I have read about the versatility of Unique--SR 7625 it is.

An additional good thing is the the SR7625 meters very well too.
A much neglected and unpraised powder.

I agree with Sam 100%. SR7625 has provided me with some of my most accurate loads in the 32 S&W Long and standard velocity 38 Special. Both it an PB have largely replaced Unique on my loading bench. Neil

7625 is a single base Unique; 4756 is a single base Herco. ... felix

Appreciate the info!!

Felix--Do you mean that I can use Unique/Herco dope to reload these powders? That would be great, as I have found very little info on using these powders for pistol/reduced cast loads for rifle!

Yes, if kept below the listed max charge in the published books, giving PRIORITY to the single book having the LOWEST max load for the cartridge being loaded. That usually is the Speer reloading book. My books are 20 years old for the most part, so keep that in mind. These powders are quite safe in cases containing not more than say 35 grains when using "reduced" loads. Always suspect cases longer than 2 inches when using pistol speed powders, and most especially when using any kind of ball powder slower than UNIQUE. ... felix

Felix--Thanx for the good info--my reloading efforts will be aimed (bad pun) at light loads for plinking/informal target shooting. As a newbie reloader, I will rely on factory loads if I need a full power/hot load--

Good shooting--
