My cast bullets from indoor range lead end up with a BHN of 12 to 14. If I add pewter to the lead in the pot what will I gain? Will it make the bullets harder? I have read that it makes them fill out better but they seem to be fine in that manner. What percentage by weight would I add?

Thanks!

Tin to make it flow better. Antimony to make it harder. The percentages depend on how hard you want it.

if your getting good fill out, don't waste the tin.

Range lead at 10-14 should cast great. I would try it before using the tin. Tin will make it a little harder but not much. As stated, tin makes it flow and fill out better.

I caste with range lead, if there is any problem with fill-out I add a small piece of pewter. Usually just a small bit of pewter does the job. I don't bother weighing the pewter.

I regularly mix range scrap with some (unknown) small quantity of pewter. It makes the wadcutters fill out better, and they are shiny and pretty. I don't guess I really need it.
