I had one a few years back. never did figger out what made it a "Magnum" 'cause in any way that I could tell, except for the stamp on top of the barrel, it was exactly the same as a New Englander.

Seems like i read that the .50 had a 1:28 twist, and the .54 was a 1:36 twist? Any truth to that? If thats the case i would like to find one in .54 Cal

I had one in 50 cal. Had the plastic stock. 1-28 with the QLA barrel. I think the magnum part comes from being able to shoot 150 grn charges. (I Think) . If the 54 really has a 1-36 twist that would be right in the wheel house for shooting a reasonable weight in paper patch. The stock is the same as the new englander. Not sure why I sold it..maybe the plastic stock.

My thoughts also. Before the so called magnums came out most the inlines were rated to 100gr. and the newer ones were rated to 150gr so at the time the non-magnums were getting clearances because everyone wanted the magnums. I p/u a nonmag on clearance for real cheap otherwise I probably never would have gotten an inline. Just wanted to see what all the hoopla was all about. Still don't see it, for myself anyway.

it was 54cal & shot about like every other T/C 54 I ever had. which is to say it shot as good or better than I can shoot.

I have one, 50 cal plastic stock, years ago they were talking about banning in lines in LA for primative season, so I bought that. Shot well with sabots but pyridrx pellets it did not like. Powder made it a hammer and 150 grs of pyro rattled my teeth but dropped deer out to 200 Yds. Eventually I put a scope on it.
After I missed a running 10 pt with it I put it in the corner for punishment. Next year they allowed single shot rifles for primative and I bought a handi rifle and never looked back.

Just made a deal on this one, its 54 Cal. Be hard pressed to find one in any better shape than this one! And i much prefer the wood stock!

The locks and triggers from the 90s before the fire are great. I have 2 from the 90s. Both Renegades.

I thought the Black Mountain Mag was a flintlock that was able to shoot the 150 gr charge of pellets????

that was the T/C Firestorm.

The firestorm came in cap or flint, also in blue or stainless.
I have a stainless flintlock.

Had 1 of the perc 50`s that used a musket cap. Never could get it to fire reliably when using pellets as it was advertised it would use. Finally I put a small starter load of 3F powder in before I loaded 2 pellets. Then it would fire every time. I sold it to a neighbor a few years back. He only uses bulk powder and no pellets thru it with no problems.Robert

I found that the fiber optic front sight got broken very easily by its being exposed. I got some to replace it from T/C as their company was being merged for free. I finally got a large brass dot Lyman front sight and made it the same height to stop the breakage problem.

I guess the walnut stock option is called a 'Westerner'? I dug this info up on the Black Mountain Magnum, it looks like TC was trying to keep the old sidelock alive when the inlines were coming in?

I think the "Magnum" & the "Westerner" were attempts to appeal to the western elk hunters where ranges tended to be longer.

Sounds very plausible bubba.50, i really like the faster twist idea since i shoot conicals exclusively, and the Walnut stock, i wish it was a renegade style with set trigger, octagon barrel, instead of new englander style.
