I know it's not the end of the world, but I just got back from the range, and I'm a bit sad. Beautiful Contender 14" .30-30, tried to get a good zero with the mounted scope, but after a couple shots it started to wander, and then after one more it locked up on me good! Finally got it open, and two little pieces fell out.

So that's that. Time to order a new set, maybe drop the barrel off to be threaded and reamed to .30-30AI. No better time to start!

Anyway, I figured I'd include a family photo too.

Mounted is the 10" .22LR Octagon barrel, next is the 10" round 44 Mag, bottom is the 30-30 14"

I have a super 14 in 44 Mag and have been very surprised at the sight picture with factory iron. Takes a stiff load with 250 cast and AA#7 and absolutely boring on man silhouette steel at 150 yards. Want to get other 14" barrels in pistol caliber. First experience & very pleased with Contender. A great platform. Good luck with repairs.

Sorry man. At least it's repairable and sounds like a good excuse to turn it into something new!

When I obtained a contender in 30 Herrett 6-7 years ago it had worn lugs and kept flopping open at each shot. I switched them with the lugs on my .22 rimfire barrel because at the time there were no parts to be had. Is somebody making parts for the contenders now?

EABco has some in stock, that's probably the route I'll go.

I didn't see lugs on Mike's page, I'll have to look again
