I've seen Witchcraft up close in person, checked it all out, got photos and videos of it. It was very cool, but I didn't know it was the only one. It came through on tour with Fifi, the last B-29, and I was there to see Fifi, to be honest. THAT'S a mighty impressive airplane too!

Very cool! I saw the Diamond Lil fly over our neighborhood in Minnesota at low altitude, that was neat, nothing but nothing on earth sounds like a 4 engined warbird, wonderful sound drew me out of the house to stare and gawk and listen intently as it lumbered slowly past... Wishing I had spent the $350 it cost to ride on it..

Thanks Art, I must have spent an hour swiveling around in each area, what a great plane.

I have a picture of me in front of the Diamond Lil. Didn't realize there was only one flying now.

I flew on a B-17 a few years ago, just bit the bullet and payed the $425. It was something I had always wanted to do.

Truth is, though the B-17 got the fame, the B-24 is the plane that did most of the heavy lifting in the 8th Air Force.

I was Navy but have always loved airplanes. Isn't the B-24 the one they called the "Shaky Bird?" Knew some of the old pilots who flew them in WWII. Great men all. I flew one back in '73 I think it was, as part of a college course. I think I know why it was called the "Shaky Bird!" IIRC, they always ran a lot of oil in them because they tended to leak, and on a long flight, would take extra oil to keep them going. My forgetter is the only thing I've got that's getting stronger, but I believe that's right, but someone correct me if it's not.

Read closer, is the only flying model J. There are a few other B24s flying.

IIRC, the B-24 carried the weight of a B-17 in bombs. :-)
If you think about it, $400+ would be worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. :-)

My friend Harold Bosserman, since passed was a ball turret gunner in a 24 and was shot down over Germany. Spent the last 6 months of the war in a German POW camp. He was a hero among heroes. I was proud to be his friend. He gave us a tour of this plane before he passed. He explained how everything worked and told stories the whole time. He refused to fly in it though. He said jumping out of one twice was enough. RIP my friend.

"If you think about it, $400+ would be worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime experience."

That's how I figured it. I had opportunities before and it always seemed like too much money. Had this chance in Topeka and just figured I could spare the cash for the experience. Glad I did.
