A friend st work just got a couple guns from his dad. He wants to know what year they were made. I know some of you guys can find this info out pretty easily.

The firdt is s S&W revolver in 32s&w with what looks to be maybe s 3" barrel.
The serial number is 333xxx

The other gun is a Remington rolling block in .22LR
its serial number is 97xxx

Many thanks guys.

A bit more info would be nice to have, S&W made a lot of different 3" revolvers chambered for the original .32 S&W. The S&W forum might be the best bet for info, I think they have a list of models and dates.

On the Remington, I think the only rolling block that was chambered for the .22 Long Rifle was some of the last #4's; but I'm not 100% certain of that either.

According to Roy Jinks' 'History of Smith & Wesson', if the revolver is a 5-shot, break-top with an exposed hammer in the 333xxx s/n range, it's probably a .32 Double-Action 3rd Model produced 1882/1883. If it's a 5-shot, break-top with a concealed hammer in that s/n range, it's probably a .32 Safety Hammerless First Model produced between 1888 and 1902.

On the other hand, if it's a solid-frame (with swing-out cylinder), it's an I-frame (M1903 Hand-ejector or .32 Regulation Police) and will require more info for a positive ID.

The #2 was popular in 22 lr. The rear of the action is slanted on that one. dates vary most are un serial #.
