Ok, they're not great pictures but it kinda gives an idea of what had to be done. This barrel is a Kart match barrel and had no throat at all. It would not chamber any sort of SWC (like the H&G #68) bullet that had the shoulder above the case mouth at all...like the cast Hi-Tek coated bullet also pictured.

After throating, life is good. No jams, hangs or hesitations...this fixed the malfunctions I was having. Accuracy is excellent and I can now seat any bullet out to the maximum the magazine will allow.

DougGuy did a great job and I highly recommend him.

I am glad it worked out all for the good. Thank you for the compliments they are appreciated.

This barrel also had to be finish reamed to set headspace, so the chamber and the throat both were reamed in two separate operations. The Manson .45 ACP finishing reamer has the throat already made onto it but it was not to my liking being a tad too close to .452" and did not cut sufficient freebore so I followed it with the custom made PT&G throating reamer that cuts a slightly longer and more gradual throat.

Lots of us use Kart barrels, and once fitted to the slide many overlook the final fitting requirements to set headspace and freebore which they tell you should be done by a competent gunsmith.

Even though they will run out of the box with a short chamber and zero freebore by seating deep in the case and headspacing off the case itself instead of the barrel, they will run MUCH BETTER once they are finish reamed and throated. It can be a major PITA to have to compensate loads and boolit diameter and COA to fit a too tight chamber, you will be much happier and the gun will run much better when the chamber and throat are stretched out and you can then load to whatever COA you want to use, with as much of the boolit shoulder sitting proud of the case mouth that the magazine will allow.

Doug...you made the barrel sing. I was becoming unhappy with it the way it was and now that you did your magic to it, it really is starting to show how good it really is. It will cloverleaf all 13 rounds out of my Ransom Rest at 20 yards....and that is using my Hi-Tek coated bullets at 1350 fps. Not bad for a 45...

You might ask..."Why 20 yards?". Well, that's the length of my basement from the Ransom Rest against the South wall to the 3/8" AR500 bullet trap we welded together on the North.

As a side note, there is zero smoke using these Hi-Tek coated bullets. There's some dust when they breakup on the bullet trap but no smoke at all from the fired round. That's one thing that about using hot loads in longer barrels....everything seems to burn.

Oh...and another thing...that barrel hasn't been cleaned. It had a single clean patch run through it to wipe out any loose crud so I could get a couple of pictures. That's how clean it shoots....no leading at all after several boxes of Hi-Tek coated cast bullets at a fairly high velocity.

He also did my barrel ,said it's was the titest he had done. I knew it was tight asit would ftf with jacketed , now feeds anything and accuracy improved greatly. Thank Doug.

He did my M&P 9 too. It wouldn't chamber cast at all, now it spits it out dead on accurate.

Good to hear this info on DougGuy. The way the crow flys, we are neighbors. May have some work for him this winter.
