So I just got my dream gun, a TC Contender Carbine, 30-30, with a bull barrel. Gun is deadly accurate with J-words. Thinking of hunting with cast with it though. I currently load 22 grains IMR 4198 with the Lee c 309 170f for my Model 94. IMR 4198 is the only powder I have, and with the stronger action of the carbine, wondering if I should increase my load? I know guys don't like to give load info but just wondering what anyone else may be using in their 30-30 Contender Carbine. Thanks, Craig.

Contender frames are the same whether it is a carbine or pistol. I suggest not exceeding published load date - someone may shoot those that exceed published (safe for all guns) data in something not as strong as your TC.

I agree, the Contender is quite strong but it's no Ruger No1! I have been shooting the same Contender since 1976 in 44 mag, 357 mag and 357 Herrett and more recently as a carbine in 204 Ruger. Some of the 44 loads I shot were bruisers but after a buddy of mine stretched his frame with heavy loads I backed off on mine, glad I did as there simply was no need for such things and now all these years later I still have my beloved Contender and it's still tight!

Plenty of 4198 data available here: http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/

The Contender is not strong enough to hot rod. Stick to published data.
