Who makes the best shellholder for 9mm Luger that will fit in a Lee Press? The 19 in the Lee seems sloppy.

8 Hornady, 12 Lyman, 16 RCBS, 13 Redding.

Some makes of brass have deeper extractor groves. This makes it seem sloppy in the lee. It also will not prime unless you do not push the shell all the way to the back of the shellholder. I have the Lyman, Lee, and Redding and use them all.

The #19 shell holder from Lee is made to fit 9mm and 40 cal. So the 9mm is sloppy. I replaced mine with the RCBS and am much happier.

CH4D shell holders are made to very close tolerances and only fit the 9 mm Luger family, the CH4D shell holder is LG , they do not accept 40 S&W, the CH4D shell holder for 40 S&W is #28. They are different from each other . Try them.

Hornady 9mm shell holders are nice and have a curved entry opening for easy case insertion.

With my first set of Lee 9mm dies, I received a number 6 shellholder in the box. It has worked perfectly for me. It fits snug without being tight and I have never had a case pull out of it.
I tried the number 19 and had problems with cases pulling out of it.
I realize the number 6 wasn't designed for the 9mm but it works perfectly.

My first press was an old Pacific and to change to a different case size you changed the ram. While it was a nuisance they did fit well. I later bought a universal but I still have some of the old rams.
