Anyone had any experience using cast 223-55grain boolits in an autoloader like an AR?
My first try using recommended powder loads was not able to operate the auto reload slide.

Grizzly055,
welcome to the forum.

A quick search of "AR Cast" in the "google custom search" box yields this...

I posted some of my preliminary results cycling a AR in this thread (post 44).

16-18gr of H4895 should get you working, but there are lots of posts about this on here.

with a filler [18ish] would work, you need more 4895 to cycle the rifle.
I'm over 22grs. in my 3.

16gr of H4895 with no filler works in our intermediate length gas upper with 55gr boolits. My 6.8 takes 18gr with 134gr Ideal boolits.

there are so many powders out now would be very hard to tell you . what old guys used is what we like there are a 100+ new ones now, so you can search the web for weeks .
BUT old don't mean we don't know from mistakes

OK I finally got off my but and started working on a cast load for my AR. I used a 55 gr lee bator PCed and GC. 20 grains of H4895 cycles fine, but does not lock the bolt back on a empty mag. I may try 20.5 tomorrow.
