So...a taller front sight makes a pistol shoot up? Or Down?

If I go from a .185 front sight to a .175...the pistol will shoot higher or lower?

Down.

Yup. The bullet follows the rear sight, moves opposite the front sight

.

The OP is reducing the front sight height (aka: moving the front sight down) - ergo, the POI should go up, just as if you raised the rear sight.

FWIW - There's no "last edited" notation @ the bottom of the OP's post, like there is on my above edited post.

There's a window for edits. If you're quick you can do it without tripping the 'edited…' flag.

different weight bullets will alter the up and down point of impact because the bullet is in the barrel more or less time and recoil is rising the muzzle, so before you mess with the front sight, decide what you are going to be shooting and then if the rear sight does not have enough adjustment You can do something with the front sight.

Another thing to keep in mind when adjusting changing sights, Older rifles that were set up for iron sights had lower combs to accomodate the lower head postion needed. Taller sights may not allow for a solid cheek weld to the stock.

Move the front sight in the opposite direction you want to move the bullet.
