I have a lead on a Marlin 1936 30-30. "B" prefix serial # so it's a 1937 production. Blueing is about 80% - stock is nice - bore is excellent - tight action and good trigger - factory rear sight (no receiver sight) and it has a recoil pad (I'm assuming an aftermarket addition).

I recently purchased a Marlin 336 SC in 30-30 (1948 production "E' prefix serial #). I'm kind of thinking this 1936 might make q nice "older brother" to the 336.

Any guesses on what a "fair" price would be for the model 1936 model I've descried above? By "fair", I'm talking a "not inflated" GB price but rather what a decent price would be for it without getting "skinned".

Also . . . what is the major difference between a 1936 model and the 336 model? Design changes, etc.? If I understand correctly, the 1936 was only made in 1936 and 1937 - is that correct? Why only two years - a problem with the design or the effect on sales by the Depression?

Any infö on fair pricing and design - i.e. any short comings on the 1936 model would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Jim

Hey there 3B -- Without pictures I wouldn't hazard a guess on value. Marlin mostly carried the 1893 design through the Model 36. This basically used a flat bolt and single trigger/sear set up. With the 336 model they introduced the round bolt and two piece trigger/sear. I'm a fan of either!!

Marlin 1893 - 36...

178499

Marlin 336...

178500

Hope this helps. Best regards. Wind

Marlin dropped the Model 36 (an "improved" Model 1936) for WWII military production.

The Model 336 (introduced in 1948) had/has a receiver config that enclosed the rear of the bolt - which someopine adds strength to the receiver.

A Model 1936 with bluing in 80% condition qualifies as a "shooter", worth what someone would actually pay for it today. (My WAG is $300-$350)
