It was a .50 Caliber. It looked unfired, not a mark on it. 6 digit serial # that began with a 2. It had a Single Trigger. Nice looking, but at $400.00 I backed off. All my Renegades have double triggers. Were singles common for Renegades?

not real common but, the Renegade Hunter had a single trigger as did the 58cal Big Boar. that would be a fair price if it WAS a Big Boar but, new or not 4 bills is about 200 bucks too much IMHO. maybe 250 to 275 if the wood was exceptional.

I was hoping you'd weigh in. Wood was better than usual, Dark Walnut, some figure. At $300.00 I would buy it. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for reply.

In that case, I would advise you to get $300 CASH, go back and speak to the GS owner (only - not a clerk), get him to invest some time is showing you the rifle, then tell him ONLY that you'd like to buy the rifle (don't mention the $300), lay the cash on the counter & say "this is all I have to spend", then keep your mouth shut ! !

He who speaks first, loses :D

What's the worse that could happen - he could say "no" ?

IME, some you win; some ya lose - the thrill's in the chase............ ;)

If the rifle was originally marketed as a single trigger Renegade Hunter model. It is a rare Renegade from what I've read.

Love this site. I learn so much. I thought the only single trigger was the Pa. Hunter. If it's rare, a little more spent might pay off in a resale.

there were some single triggers just marked Renegade & had the standard steel butt plate. the ones marked "Renegade Hunter" & the "Big Boars" had a thin black rubber recoil pad in addition to the single trigger. while neither are real plentiful, the only one I'd pay a premium price for would be the Big Boar. but that's just me & your mileage may vary.

My .54 Renegade came with factory 2 triggers. I later came upon a single trigger replacement for it, liked that a good deal better.Robert

MY TURN.......... I believe bubba is correct. the renegade hunter did come with a single trigger. and so did the penn rifle. But the Penn hunter was a flinter only.

There were allot of T/C single triggered rifles. White Mountain carbines as well as the New Englander and Penn Hunter models Big Bore 58 and Grey Hawk. As a matter of fact all T/C carbine models had a single trigger.

IDK about the down-sized T/C Seneca's, but the later Cherokee's changed from DST's to the single trigger, too.

I agree with bubba.50 on the price, $400.00 is a little high.

I've been looking for a fair priced big bore for years....last unfired one I seen they were asking $1000.00

As did I.......there was an after market manufacture, IIRC, that was on the West side of Michigan. Mucho better...... for cold weather hunting in Northern climes, where heavy gloves are a must. Michigan's Muzzle Loading Season starts in the middle of December. BTW, mine is a LH Renegade with a 4 digit serial number, lead off with a L.
