I have a TC 45 caliber, 1-48 twist that shoots 250 and 285 maxi type slugs into a ragged hole at 50yds, open sights. I believe it will shoot 300 grain paper patched slugs. I know I need a .440 sizer, that screw into a reloading press. Here are my questions.

!. Who make a good, cheap sizer die and stud in this size?
2. Will a .458 45/70 slug, size down to this in one pass, on this type sizer.
3. Anyone Have any .451, or .,452-- 300 gr lead pistol slugs, I could buy 40-50 to try, prefer softer ones, and can you recommend a good, economical mold.

I will soon be receiving a Green Mtn. LRH .45 barrel, 1-28 twist, and I plan on sizing some 45/70 slugs down to fit it, I have a .451 sizer for my Lyman 45, used to size 5 groove 430grain slugs for my Whitmore repo I built. It is a 1-20 twist. I am going to lighter bullets in it also, 340-360grains, paper patched, for flatter shooting, less recoil.

Any thoughts, opinons, help appreciated, I know Roger and IdahoRon will chime in!

your going to love the results. most of the resizer guys have folded shop, lee does special orders and you can order one from them for around 40 or so dollars. it is hard to go to a 440 from 459 but easy from 451. i may have a .439 or or .437 and that would work as all you would have to do is run the sized bullet back and forth between a couple of large clean flat files and they would knarl up easily to what you need. also you can send me the bullets you want to try and i can run them through my .440 swaging dies and give you a hollow base kieth nosed .440 bullet.a 430 grain bullet would be a tackdriver in a 1/20 twist barrel. dont make your bullets harder than 30 to 1 , however i did some in 20 to 1 and they did work perfectly but they were hollow based which bumps up real easy. i have a lee hollow base 40 grain .458 mold. that would be the perfect bullet to resize to .440 and pp for that 1/20 rifle. again, lee will make you one and im going out to my little shop now and see what i have, roger

follow up, went to the shop and the reduceing sizer is .438 and would work very well for you. a couple of ways you could use it. if you single wrap i suspect 20 pound computer paper would work as is with this die on the single wrap. make sure you have a stiff wad just into the bore as when you single wrap you need a wad to rest the base on as the bullet goes down so the paper doesnt come off. if you want to use number nine paper or 18 pound freezer wrap paper just run the sized .438 bullets between a couple of flat files and their you are .440 or a little larger but that wont hurt as the knarling is soft and will make the bullet snug but easy to go down the bore patched. so Sam, send me your address and if it works for you just send me 35 dollars and it is yours. happly shooting, roger

When you figure out what size die you are after Buckshot can make you a push through size die at whatever diameter you like. He does excellent work; give him a PM.
