I have several H&R single shot rifles. Most have no sights, just scope bases. A few would benefit from having iron sights on board. Such as a .444 Marlin barrel that is a real humdinger. Or a 7.62x39, etc. What are you guys doing along these lines? I'm sure this has been addressed before I got around to it. The front sight seems like the biggest challenge. Ideas? Thanks. PS I'm looking at hunting type uses. Mostly close range stuff. Maybe the dark snakey woods.

On my H&R Buffalo Classic 45-70 I put a Redfield peep rear and a Lyman hooded sight on the front. Took off the scope as it didn't look right. The Redfield peep has a fairly large appeture which comes to the eye fast and with cast reloads I'm approaching the accuracy I had with jacketed and the scope.

John Taylor does a neat mod, machining the breech of the Handi-Rifle barrel to accept the Kensight reproduction of the M1 carbine rear sight. Not exactly "traditional" but HIGHLY functional! The low sight install permits use of the factory front sight. Both my .30-30 and .45 Colt barrels are so equipped.

i've had 3 buff classics, and one sported the smith enterprises rear ladder peep sight, works quite well for hunting and plinking real long range. not cheap, though.

Williams Gun Sight Co makes 2 rear sights for H&R/NEF/Handi rifles the WGOS open sight & the WGRS peepsight - which are the exact same sight bases with different sighting leafs.

Williams also makes their "Shorty" ramp, which has a female dovetail which will accent any male dovetail front sight blade - even the Williams FireSight or other fiber-optic front sights.
