Please bear with the noob questions, I've looked around a bit to no avail.

Goofing around, I seated an LBT 360-240 WFN in a 9mm case:

177854

Provided the cases are properly annealed, I'm wondering if I can run them through a push through sizer down to .358 in one pass and have a useable projectile. My understanding is that when swaging pistol bullets with 9mm, normally .30 caliber cores are used. Is it asking for spring back issues using a larger core? If a full size .358 core is acceptable, does it need to be chemically bonded to the case?

The idea was to use these a moderate velocities in .357 Max and 35 Whelen.

Hi Hamish,

Going from 0.390" or more to 0.358" is too much to expect from a push-through size die. I've reduced commercial jacketed bullets, using multiple dies and reducing 0.003" per pass. For example, reducing 0.375" bullets for use in the 9x74R cartridge required three specially-made dies to achieve a 0.009" reduction in diameter. At that rate you would need 11 dies. Add to that the fact that commercial cup-and-core bullets are softer and easier to reduce than bullets made from cartridge cases. Sorry.

Take care, Tom
