Anyone ever make 30 herrett? If so have you made it from 7.62x39 brass?

My particular ak has a 308 bore in it and i load for it. Im kinda intreagued by the 30 herrett rimless round though. It looks like it has just slightly better ballistics that the x39 and i wonder how it will do in an ak.

You think its possible to rechamber the x39 to 30hrt withiut a barrel swap?

I have not made any .30 Herrett cases, but according to my book your idea won't work. The .30 Herrett is made form the .30-30 Winchester and is both longer and skinnier than the 7.62x39.

I recall reading an article by Bob Milek in the late eighties where he stated that if the 7.62x39 had been easily available that he and Steve Herrett would have used it, instead of going to the trouble of reforming the .30-30 case.

I make Herrett from .30-30 as intended. Fortunately I have a set of the forming and reaming dies.
The head of the 7.62X39 is a little larger than the .30-30 but I guess you could swage it if you are desperate.
.30-30 brass is much easier to find anyway.
As I recall you probably cannot re-chamber either one for the other.
If you need better ballistics just get something bigger than these pee wees.

As pointed out a re-chambering is not possible but the .30 HRT is an nice alternative to the 300blk and 7.62x40wt. Here is a link that describes this round. http://www.ar15barrels.com/prod/30hrt.shtml

You could make it from 6.8SPC or 30 Rem.

That is a great alternative for people who hate the .30 Herrett case forming adventure. For a Contender barrel you would have to change the extractor and load 6.8 brass using .30 Herrett dies.

I was referring to the rimless version. The 30-30 rim would be far too big to be feasible in an ak.

Well, a man can dream still. I guess I'll stick with my x39.
