Anyone ever built a heavier sprue plate for Lee 6 cavity mold? I like a heavier sprue plate with a trough like the H&G molds have. I made one for my RCBS 250K and I liked the improvement when I cast.

Anyone tried this?

Thanks,

Would the extra thickness prevent the alloy from hardening while in the trough? Or do you still fill each cavity one at a time?

No, it all hardens into one long sprue. It helps you get good fillout on your sprues. You still fil each cavity individually, but they all run together and fill the bases out easier.

I havent tried it, It would be interesting to try, are we talking a steel one instead of aluminum??

I do like the H&G/Ballisticast spru plates. I think they allow you to get a deeper/increased volume sprue without having such a large thin puddle.

yes, it would be in steel.

I just cut a trough in the Lee sprue plate with a ball end mill.

I thought about that but they are so thin I was afraid I would weaken it.

I have one 6 cavity that has about 8000 bullets cast out of it, the sprue plate is still good.

I fill my 6 cavitys so I have one solid sprue when the mold is up to temp. Gianni
