There were several guys at a local gun show who were charging and getting $32.00/lb for 2400!
I bought some at the local gun store last week for $26.99/lb and thought it was too high!
I have an old Hercules Powder 2400 steel can that still has the price marked on it....$2.99!
Them days is gone forever!

Look for when it is available online. Then buy it fast and buy as much as you can afford. I just got 16 pounds of 2400 from Recobs for $20 a pound. This is even factoring in shipping and the hazmat fee.

$27 a pound is high? Been that price here for at least a decade. $25-$35 a pound w/ no price breaks for quantity is the norm at any of the stores. There are vendors at the shows that charge close to internet prices. I'm guessing it's been a long time since the OP bought powder. Last time I picked up a can of Varget it was $37 a pound.

Thank POTUS as the new shipping regs are raising prices here too.

What new regs? You mean the ones that have been on the books for awhile but weren't being enforced?

I don't expect my local guy to stock his shelves and complete with big online retailers. I paid 31.99 a lb. for 2400 a few weeks back and because I did, the guy who owns the local shop made a few bucks. I hope he returns the favor with my wares one day. Sad thing is, Alliant is made 15 minutes from me and I can't buy direct. They have to ship through distributors.

2400 is $156 / 8 lbs at LGS. Alliant has gone up in price in the last few years at our LGS. Alliant was about $3 less per lb than Hodgdon.

An employee said higher prices were due to the smaller quantities of powder shipments; previously Alliant would pay shipping on orders over 2,000 lbs. or more LGS said they have large orders in but are only getting 500 lbs and are required to pay the shipping on it.

Doesn't cost anything to throw another piece of paper in the log book. One of my dealers orders powder all the time and NEVER pays a hazmat charge. He is always cheaper than at any other store or gunshow in the area.

This isn't about 2400 as I find that fairly regularly where I shop.

What I've been finding scarce is Unique. I bought 4lbs of it 3-4 years ago @ $80 approx. Just recently found it in a small town 4 hours from my home. They had 3lbs and I bought them all.

Cost me $75 and I was glad to pay it.

Last 8# jug I bought was $150 (5 months ago). It was in the middle of a bunch of tables wanting double that. Through all of the insanity and conspiracy rumors of the last handful of years I've found all basic powders for very reasonable prices just by being patient. I don't blame a guy for trying to make a buck but no one should blame me for trying to save one. Hope my luck keeps up.

THANK YOU!

This is a free market capitalist society we live in. It's what everyone loves...until they have to pay more for their gas or .22's then everyone starts crying like a

Buy low, sell high. That is the way of things. If the price is more than you are willing to pay....DON'T buy it.
Why is that so difficult?

Was at a store in FL recently, all powder was 40.00 or better. It stayed in the store.
Was at LGS found powder at a price I was willing to pay, picked up three different pounds, put them on the counter, and could not get any body to take my money. Left them on the counter, and walked out won't be going back any time soon.

My local shops are $40 per lb on handgun powders....that is gouging...yours has a fair price.

All those that tout "supporting your local shop", don't have to deal with this bunch that I have around here. I don't mind paying a little more to buy local...but I ain't gonna be robbed, to do it.

I've been fortunate that the two shops I go to here in central NC have good prices. 2400 has been $23 per pound when it started showing up again. Primers are $30 per brick. I read about what folks happily pay other places and know I'm lucky. When I checked out the new Field and Stream store in Greensboro, I was in disbelief at the $30-$40 per pound on the price tags. Glad I have other options.

what's doe run

From what has been published new regulations made it not economically feasible to continue the operations. This has since made it necessary to ship to foreign countries to recycle and then ship the products back to the USA. Maybe someone can continue where left off.afish4570

I think we have lead recyclers we don't have smelters for new lead.

We have had decent luck with at least one supplier at local gun shows. He charges a price that is about what it goes for online, when you factor in shipping and hazmat which I'm sure he is paying on his orders, just diluted by larger quantity. Did not gouge during scarce times so he has my business for at least about 40# of powder so far this year. Unless I'm looking to purchase a single larger bulk order. Did that online purchase route to get 4198 and Unique in 8# jugs. Reloader's World does not stock a lot of 8# jugs at the gun shows and they tend to go fast. Good assortment of 1# bottles. It is where my stash of Varget came from. Also some of the "Dot's" have shown up in his stock.

I seem to recall that AA4100 or N110 is very close to 2400 and H110 might be an alternative that seems to be more available. If your local shops are doing you wrong then maybe online should be your answer, either put together the scratch to order in quantity for yourself or find another reloader tired of your local prices to go in with you. For good powders you have to be ready to jump when you find it online.

To be honest I've paid as high as $35 a pound for 2400.

Guys, to whom do not get it! This color is sarcasm. Doe run has been used to blame everything for everything in the reloading and cast industry on this forum.

Here in Western Washington 2400 is hard to find. I called Alliant a while back and the customer service rep told me 2400 is alive and well. Seems the ammo manufactures have first dibs on their production. He assured me it would not be discontinued. If I find it here, I just buck up and buy it. 2400 is like peas and carrots in my '06 and 44mag....

Up here in Canada , a local shop has 2400 for just over $28 per pound converted into US funds. The Alliant powders have been easier to find for the past year. Before that Unique and 2400 were scarce as hens teeth

Graf & Sons often has a deal on Noblesport Vectan powders, if you purchase ten 1/2 Kilo bottles (mixed or all one kind) of Vectan then they'll pay the hazmat fee. Shipping on orders is a fixed $7.95 per order too. Plus once you've got the free hazmat covered with the Vectan powder you can add on other brands of powder or primers up to 32 lbs more. Since Vectan powder is in 1/2kilo bottles you get about 10% more than a one pound bottle and the powder price is very competitive. I switched from Clays to Vectan AS for my 12 ga shotgun reloading and never had to worry about not finding it in stock and I think my last order was about $17/lb delivered.

I was at my local BassPro store this morning looking for a swivel stud. I noticed they had some 2400 on the shelf. I almost soiled myself. They rarely have any of my preferred powders in stock. I still had a little less than a pound of the stuff left but I thought I'd better get some more while I had the chance.

If I remember right it was 32 dollars and change here in Arizona.

I don't know what the price of 2400 is locally since it hasn't been seen here in 3-4 years.

I was at the same local sporting goods store recently,(Black Sheep in CD'A Idaho) and they had all kinds of powders except for 2400 and Reloder 7. There was even 5 pounders of Trail Boss and lots of Unique and Bullseye!
