I'm looking for recommendations for good clean reliable ammo for these pistols.
Not for my own use, I intend to obtain some quality ammo to give to a friend to use in his pistol. Most likely I'll wait till Christmas, but might give it to him earlier.

I've had a few bad experiences with surplus 7.62X25 ammo in a 52 in the past, mostly due to a black gummy bullet sealant gumming up the chambers and internals and requiring detail stripping and cleaning. I suspect this was SMG ammo, it was very hot.
It worked fairly well if each round was carefully cleaned before loading, but the sealant was not easy to remove from the neck and case body and transferred to other cases in the bag.

I'd as soon buy lesser quantities of a high quality new production ammo. He doesn't shoot that much now days.

I'd like to get recommendations as to accuracy more than anything else.

S&B has done well for me.
Reloadable brass. Not too dirty.

I shoot the yugo made tokarev the most.
Good luck

There really isnt a whole lot of choice when it comes to 7.62x25. The surplus has pretty much dried up. The only new factory stuff I have seen is winchester FMJ, or S&B FMJ. But the winchester is probably just S&B. Not sure I like the S&B so much. Some I have flattens the primers from pressure. One round even left a little disc of primer behind blocking the firing pin.

I load a lot of 7.62 x 25 with Starline brass for a CZ 52 and aTT33. Before re-loading I shot a lot of S&B, PPU, and Winchester. The Winchester ammo had PPU(in Cyrillic) on the head stamp. All shot flawlessly from both pistols. The S&B brass was prone to get some cracks after a couple times of firing. Just fired some of the S&B 85 grain that I had left over the chronograph and I believe it was close to 1800 fps.

Privi Partizan here although the S&B also seemed ok.

Best accuracy and field performance in my CZ52 has been to load the Hornady 90-grain XTP .309" bullet in Starline brass with Federal 200 primers and 6 grains of Bullseye, which gives 1450 fps. Shoots flat like a rifle and bullet blows up well on varmints.

For a less expensive practice load I cast the Accurate 31-087T from wheelweights, running the melt hot so that bullets are uniformly frosted, then I water drop them, lube with Lee Liquid Alox and load 5.5 grains of Bullseye for approximately the same velocity. Both loads shoot to the sights and I can ring the 12" steel gong at 100 yards repeatedly.

In the TT33 pistol these charges must be reduced 1/2 grain. In the Mauser M96 they must be reduced a FULL grain!

Great information, thanks to all who took an interest.

I doubt my friend will do any reloading for this round, but I introduced him to reloading rifle cartridges many years ago so he might decide to give it a shot with the pistol cartridge.
reloadable cases are always a plus.

I'll check the LGS for Privi or S&B ammo.

I wouldn't mind having a pistol in this caliber, but I already have more pistols than I really need in .380 and 9mm.
I had given thought to a light game/anti-vermin bolt action rifle in this chambering, but once I found a very nice 23B I had that power range and rifle type covered well enough.

Decades ago, got several cases of Chicom NONCORROSIVE Copper Washed Steel (CWS) case 7.62mm Tokarev ammo.
Shoots great in my CZ 52's. Hava feeling that CZ52's perform better with seel cases?
Anybody run some real tests? (Tests are way better than GONRA's "feelings".)

I disagree, brass has much better spring to it, when we compare the steel used in cartridge cases and the brass used in cartridge cases. It also does not have the lacquer coating to flake off an build up. Not that it has ever been a real issue in our testing with the 7.62x25, but the 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R are notorious for it. Beyond that the surplus 7.62x25 and new manufacture in the steel cases are plinking ammo and rather dirty. They shoot, and if you are more interested in making noise than making small groups, by all means use it. The one thing it has going for it is the price. But like so many other things in life, you get what you pay for.

The Winchester White Box FMJ has run well in my TT-30/33 and the CZ-52. The brass reloads well, and the bullets clock about 1350-1375 FPS from my pistols, which is pretty close to the 1930 specs for Russian pistol ammo.

Privi partizan from Serbia is fast becoming my favorite factory ammo. The brass case Monarch brand from Academy is PPU also. I have found it accurate & 100 percent reliable. They load the 7.62 X25mm in FMJ & HP. A very cool cartridge and a true 100 yard pistol in the CZ-52. Best, Thomas.
