I have a couple of 1871 pattern guild guns that were missing the diopter sights, one had a poor Dixie Gun Works repro on it and the other had a cobbled up semi-buckhorn on it. I came across two sights for sale at BACO in the consignment area. As always they were pricey but i sprang for them. took them to the range and they are just the ticket. take a look.

The biggest issue i had was which rifle to put what sight on. I finally decided on matching the finish. the 8.15x46 has more blue so the sight with the better finish when on that one. the other a 38-55 has more brown on it so i put the older looking one on it. I still have a bit of work to do getting them just right. one thing i have to do is find a key for the windage adjustment. i use old clock winding keys for the square hed screws that lock the sight into the tang but they are too small for the adjustment screw. just have to hit the antique stores til i find one.

Wonderful find. In the photos, they look like they were original to the rifles.
