As some of you know, I am pretty computer illiterate. So.. I decided to change my e-mail from yahoo.com to Mozilla Thunderbird. It seemed easy, too easy I found out!!! I went back and canceled my yahoo.com mail account. OK, went to Thunderbird and all my archives are gone because it says that it has to get to yahoo.com to access them. Well, I can't do that, yahoo is gone. Now what????

I just went and changed my password, never had an issue. I have 2 accounts, one a 'shmuck' account, where some website needs an emial to continue, fine here you go. But even that account is unaffected and I didnt change the password. I never gave yahoo but the bare minimum of info to begin with.

So do I have to have a new e-mail address and password to get the e-mails to come to the Thunderbird e-mail program?

Maybe yahoo can restore your email.
It looks like you did not understand that thunderbird only copies the mail to your local computer.
You still need someone to "host" your email address like xxx@yahoo.com and when you cancelled yahoo it all went bye-bye..

Thunderbird is only a email client, you still need the email service to connect to.

OK, now my educational level is a notch higher. I see I have to either retain(I went back and reactivated my Yahoo account) the yahoo account or move to gmail or something like that. I really appreciate all your help. Oh, my friend has 4 girls at home, I should have asked the six year old how to do this!

Ask here if you need to. I am a Systems Engineer and I am sure there are several others with some knowledge.

Thanks guys, I got my account back on Yahoo so that is ok, and now I understand a lot about Thunderbird. When I first heard about it, I was under the impression that it was the whole e-mail thing, see I told you I am computer illiterate. But thanks again.
Ole Jack
PS Boolit Head I will keep you in mind next time I get the urge to do something dumb.
