Sights for tc hawken, question.

So, I've got a tc hawken I built a while back, and I've never shot it because I have no sights.

I prefer peep sights to notch and post.

What rear sight would you guys recommend?

I can buy a skinner peep for it easily, but that would place the peep too far forward I'm afraid.

Skinner has their lo pro peep as well, but I'm not sure if drilling into our near the breech plug to install that would be a good idea.

any thoughts?

a Lyman model 57sml peepsight mounts on the tang & is made expressly for the T/C. requires drillin' & tappin' one 8x32 hole in the tang if you don't already have a 3-hole tang on yer gun. some use the Lyman 17a front sight with insert set for the front but, myself, I prefer a brass bead front.

If I'm not mistaken, the TC tang is pre-drilled for the Lyman tang sight. I have one on my Lyman rifle and like it pretty well. It's also at the right height, and has plenty of adjustment. I'd contact Lyman about that to be sure.

My Lyman rifle came with the faux ivory bead front sight, and I like it well enough that I've kept it.

nice sight. but $100 on this free rifle seems like a lot. I'll keep it in mind.

as mentioned, the lyman sml-57 should be able to work for the tc, with some drilling and maybe filing. i added that 57, plus a lyman front globe, to a gpr .50 kit. love the dual aperture arrangement, just like my bpcr rifles :)

80 bucks at mid south, worth every penny to me, have 3 of them on different guns, 2 of them TC.

you could also try an "aperture neodymium donut magnet", stuck to yer rear iron sight ...

That could work, but sadly, I have no sights on the rifle.

Making a rear peep from a spade head screw with a knurled nut is probably the best low cost approach.
Being the rifle is a TC the barrel is drilled and tapped at the rear sight mounting location but that's too far forward. Drilling and tapping the tang is the way to go.

You can make it yourself, and then file a dovetail and fit it. This one has a Williams aperture, but my next rifle will not.

Track of the Wolf has lots of sights. Hand cutting a dovetail is not difficult, just go slow and check it frequently. Surely there is a YouTube video on the Subject? Flyer
