Shot a garden pilferin' bunny this evenin with my 454 Puma.

It was stoked with a Lyman 452374 Devastator (202g as cast with straight WW). Lubed with 50/50.

Loaded in WW 45 Colt cases over 13g HS6. (1300 fps) Range - 12 yards.

It entered his back right between the shoulders.

The results were.... well quite interesting.

My .223 with full house j word loads does this to baby bunnies. Two dimensional.

Looks almost like the rabbit my son shot with a 50 caliber muzzleloader a few years ago. No deer around, range was about the same. Result was a bunny head, skin and legs from both sides, but nothing in between. The rest was ground up in the hole in the ground. Funny what we remember most fondly.

Yup, that mould's a keeper.

I would keep that mold and use it a lot for some the critters around my place, but then again I use a 300 RUM for Coyote huntin' at less than a 100 yards.

Does anybody know how to sew a hole that size up? Providing I can find the other half?

They group well. I have a 50 yard target somewhere with 5 of them inside 3/4 inch.

I had been loading them in my 45 XD with very good results. Decided to try some in the Puma.

It would seem they are aptly named. I guess the next test medium should probably be more along, say coyote size.

Is this what Boddington means by "use enough Gun"?

I shot a rabbit with factory 125s out of a .357 mag one time. No where near that much damage, the for and aft quarters were still edible.

TOO MUCH GUN! Looks like you got some of your garden also... or was that inside the rabbit before impact? Is that what you call OVERKILL?

so, how much of the garden did you plow at the shot?

I am so glad I bought one of those molds a few years ago! Just got around to working the bugs out of it ( bought a ladling pot) Looking forward to shooting some!

If old Butch would have had that boolit he'd still be out there at The Hole In The Wall.:Fire:

He was found approximately two feet beyond the gut pile.[smilie=w:

 I'm thinking this could be the go to round for home defense. :Fire:

My theory on HP for defense has always been. If you have enough gun/bullet to push it.

I use HP's in my 44 but stick with flat points in my 9mm and for sure the 380 auto.
Main reason I've J word HP's in my 44 mag is so I know which cartridges are loaded up with a full charge of AA#9. I rarely shoot em cause I can't take the recoil and still call it fun. I shoot 8gr of H-Universal behind a 240gr boolit. But now have some 200 and 205gr to try out at the same velocity. Biggest thing I've ever shot with my 44 is a couple dozen rattle snakes. It does real good. The 9mm's just punch holes in them. 44's and 45's open them up and spread their insides out. HP's don't have time to open on a snake. However they do cut down on ricochet. That can be good or bad. Depending on what you are trying to do.

Ya gotta make head shots!

Normally I do, but I just had to know.

Besides the Bunnies are covered in ticks here. The No.1 way Tularemia gets transmitted between Rabbits.

A couple of years ago I reported a sick fox to F&G that I'd seen behind my house. There was a rabies scare at the time. F&G said "Nope, we're not interested.", after I had described its symptoms. "Sounds like a combination of mange and distemper, so feel free to shoot it, and bury it deep." Since I have the same mould, I think I'll cast some up so as to be ready when the next test subject happens by.
