Anyone use the Lee 452-230-TC? I'm thinking about telling my wife she can get me a mold for Christmas if she wants to. I have a 2 cavity Lyman 452374 that I like, but 6C would be nice, as well as trying something different.

Any pros or cons, reliability, accuracy? I used to tend to stay away from bevel base, but now that I've started powder coating that's not a problem.

Have had great groups with it powder coated over 5gr of Bullseye out of my Para Ordnance Elite

If you buy the 2-cavity, you'll probably end up buying the 6-cavity later on. :)

The cross points were just an experiment that I was doing.

Thanks! I would definitely be buying the 6 cavity.

Shoot the heck out of the tl version in both my 45's. Also works well in 45 colt and the circuit judge carbine. Accurate and hit like a hammer. I pc and like the tl version for easier engraving (plenty of bearing surface on that slug) and run 4.2 of red dot for general purpose, or 7 of hs-6 to duplicate feel and ballistics of my hornady xtp's.

Good design however will likely have to seat it on the shorter COAL side of things if your barrels have short/abrupt throats. I would typically seat so the brass mouth was even or nearly so with the shoulder of the boolit.

Best shooting 230 gr boolit in my gun using ETR-7. Half the size of 452374 groups.

I love this mold and have shot about 1500 rounds of it since I got the mold, I would make sure you have a large enough lead pot to keep up with a 6-banger. I use trail boss with this and with the small amount you need you can get bunches of bullets with one can of powder.

Mine works fine , and shoots good to . The 6 cavity will empty the pot quickly.

Agreed... On the average, toss in a pound of lead after every 5 of the 6-cavity casts. Don't wait until the pot gets low, otherwise the cold lead will cause the rest of the pot to cool down so much that it becomes solid.

Now, on the other hand, you can cast quite a few of the Lee C225-55-RF 6-cavity molds before needing to add lead. :)

I love mine, and it does PC well! Feeds well, hits hard, groups well: what's not to like?? As NavyVet says, I add a DRY ingot when my pot level lowers enough to safely accept it and just keep on casting the with LEE 6-banger with no problem. Plonk test will tell you how deep to seat them: as noted here above I seat it to the shoulder.

Thanks all. You have convinced me! I told myself I wouldn't be buying another mold in the foreseeable future, but I think I'll have to try this one.

I have both a 10 and 20 lb pots, and several 6c molds already. I like the newer Lee molds, great value for the money.

My results with it. Ruger 45 long colt.

I have the lee 6-C 230 gr tc made a few K and then had a friend mill off 0.70 from the top of the mould to make a 200 gr tc works perfect and is accurate in 9 different 45 pistols.

This mould cast a lot better than my two previous 6 -C lee moulds

I chose to use this bullet because the col of 1.200 functioned a lot better for my short stroke CW 3.5" and PM 3.25" Kahr,s than the Saeco # 68 and 62 with a col of 1.250 and like bullets with a longer col. funny thing the TP 4.0" Kahr has a longer stroke like my PA P-12 and other 1911s and will run with the 68 & 62 with a col of 1.250

My favorite for full-power .45 ACP. Accurate and reliable feeding in both of my 1911s (one an unmodified WWII era Remington-Rand) and my Series 70 LW Commander.

I like the 230-TC as well; it's a decent bullet that can be made a little better with a few modifications.

As it comes from Lee, it shoots well, but in my testing it tended to tumble and veer offline on impact, rather than penetrating straight and deep. Milling some of the base off, as bobthenailer mentions above, helps with that.

It also takes a hollow point really well, if you wanted to have the mold converted. If you're going that route, you can skip milling the base, and even bore out the bevel base for a little extra weight if you want to keep it dropping around 220-230gr.

This one pictured drops about 215gr, and is more accurate than the original, because of the hollow point.

I have the 2 cavity, had it for many years, it is the best feeding 45 boolit I have. It will feed in pistols that have trouble feeding some ammo.

Ditto on this boolit!! It actually the first mold bought and started to cast with. It's a six cavity as well. Works great in my Norinco 1911 and BIL's Glock. It is still a staple but my old mihec 2cav gets loaded up almost as much for 185 hp's and 200 solids.
