I have never used this powder but a coworker asked me if was usable in a 44 mag with cast bullets. I see in the burning rate charts that 4756 is slightly slower than Unique. This makes me think it is possible. Have any of you tried this powder in 44 mag?

I load 7.5 gr in 44 spl cases with a 185 gr full wadcutter, Works great in the Charter Bulldog and is spooky accurata in my model 29 Smith.
I usually keep 4-5 hundred loaded this way for special occasions... like Saturday.... or Sunday.... or any day with the grand daughter.

4756 is a good powder, just a little bit slower than Unique, and in the range of what you're looking for by general rule of thumb, I've found I works out that if you used 10 grains of Unique, then 11 grains of 4756 will give you the same speed. Accuracy is good with light loads.

It works well in cast rifle loads as well up to about 175 gr. Not my 'go to' powder but perfectly serviceable.

Here is an old favorite of mine. Have used 4756 for 20+ years mainly in handguns having only this around in the poor days from shutgun shell loading.

Seems to have less felt recoil, always extract easy, and a great load in the 9mm. Casting the RCSB 9mm with gas check and sized to .356, my Browning Hi Power had a ragged 1" group at 15 yards. Ken Waters liked this powder for alloy bullets in the 9mm. Works will in .357 and .41 mag, very clean and a lot of loads for the dollar.

Another adherent to SR-4756 via Ken Waters' texts in Handloader/Pet Loads. It is THE powder in 32-20 WCF revolver loads, as stated by Mr. Waters and borne out by 15+ years' shooting by me. I haven't used it extensively in straightwall Special or Magnum cases for mid-level loads, Herco gets that duty hereabouts. It can be a little hard to find locally, so I reserve it for the 32-20 revo stuff.

I have loaded 9.0 grains of 4756 in 44 mag for 2 S&W M29's (6" and 8&3/8 inch barrels). Bullet is an H&G #503 weighing 250 grains and sized .429 and lubed with NRA 50/50. Slight roll crimp. Shoots into one hole at 25 yards, off the bench all day with both guns. The recoil is moderate. It burns clean and no leading at all. I have no idea what the velocity is as I don't have a chrono, but it definitely is less than one thou fps. Probably in the 900's. I recommend the 4756 in this loading or something close depending on what your pistol make is and what it likes/prefers. Its definitely worth at least a try. Good luck & shooting. LLS
