I remember seeing one can of it in the LGS (Smith's Hardware, Starkville AKA Starkvegas, MS) in the 1960's.

BTW, I am a HUGE fan of the U of A football team this weekend!

Nike didn't come about until the 70's and was solely focused on shoes. If you saw some Nike powder in the 1960's it wasn't the same "Nike" as we Know today.

"Other Alcan PowdersAnother shotgun powder imported from Italy was Nike. Manufactured by Baschieri & Pellagri, Nike was a fast burning shotshell powder described as being crimson in color in the Alcan manual number 10. There is only a small amount of loading data for Nike powder in this manual at the bottom of page ten for 12 and 20 gauge game loads with old style wad columns and a few 16 or 12 gauge slug loads. For the few game loads listed, the Nike powder charge is 1 to 2 grains less than that of equivalent load using Hercules Red Dot."

I was kidding in my Nike post as I never heard of the powder but the other night I was looking through Cartridges Of The World #8 in bed (don't we all peruse gun stuff as nighttime reading?) and on page 310 there is a list of uncategorized obsolete powders and #3 is Nike.

"Nike: Single-base, crimson colored, flake powder of medium-fast burning rate. Recommended for Berdan type brass shotshells and for loading rifled slugs."
