A local fella has a Ruger 41 mag 3 screw,4-5/8" bbl with a 4 digit serial number and claims it has been shot only 10 times. He wants to sell it but doesn't know what to ask. I saw only one like it on GunBroker today and the guy is asking $799.00! Can any of you help with a realistic value on this gem? Thanks--Shuz

The three screw guns seem to only bring a slight premium over New Models (actual selling prices).

Your right the 3 screw doesn't add a whole lot more money value but it is definitely more desirable. Has it been converted with a transfer bar? If it is converted I would pass. The 4 5/8 inch barrel is the most rare barrel length of the 3 screw models, and it's a 41 mag so that's not super common either. If you really want it I would try to stay around $650 or under. It might be worth more but that is what I would do. Id try to buy it, sounds nice. I just got a 3 screw blackhawk 357 and it's awesome.

A nice "New Model" BH is worth about $400.
I'd start with an offer in that ball park, I won't give over $500.
If you know how, search GB for similar "SOLD" items (you have to login and use advanced search), I bet you'll see that recent sales weren't anywhere near $799.

Thanks for the help! I'm not interested in this revolver, just merely trying to help him determine value. I'll tell him to ask $550 and come down from there.

I'm a Ruger collector & it just happens that I recently purchased 2 more 41 mag OM 3-screws. One was a 4-5/8" & the other a 6-1/2". Both of these have a bit more wear than a pristine example. I gave $425 for the shortie & $450 for the longer one.
Now, a minty condition gun can bring a bit more, and especially if he has the box & papers. That does have an effect on value. Also, the serial number,,, can POSSIBLY make a difference.
If it's an honest 4 digit, and it's close to another person's gun, it could bring a bit more.
I'd be interested in discussing it in PM's if you wish.

I bought a 4 digit 3 screw, unconverted, with brass frame modification (added after the factory) for $600 a while ago. I felt it was a fair deal. I'd personally spend up to $650 on the one you mentioned, maybe a bit more. I figure if I over pay $50-75 to get something I really want, I'll have forgotten about that lil bit extra through out my lifetime

Well, this gun was on the table for only 1/2 hour before it sold. The guy who bought it was a Ruger collector who showed us the Ruger emblem he had tattooed on his left arm! For those interested, we priced it at $550.00 and that's what it sold for. Thanks for all the replies.
