Got my 45 cal mold back form Erik, needed HP alterations on both cavities. One was at .281meplat and the other cavity is the same nose configuration but slightly longer, leaving about .2 meplat. He has done his typical great work on this one Pics coming soon.

I have had Erik modify several molds from doing his HP conversion to removing grease groves and he has always done a great job.

You know, I should have thought of that...I just got an email saying he was shipping my mold. I want to try Hi-Tek coated bullets so I ordered a mold from Magma for my Master Caster. They only have certain "grease grooveless" designs in bevel base and I need a bevel base design. A plane base tends to smear or leave little rings when I try and run one through my GSI bullet feeder, not that lead bullets go through it well it anyway. I'm told that Hi-Tek specifically deals with that issue...no sticky lube. They swear a Hi-Tek coated will run through a bullet feeder like a jacketed bullet...god I hope so! I don't want to give up casting bullets or my GSI bullet feeder.

So I call Magma and order a .45-200 gr, SWC, BB, without grease grooves...you know, the old H&G #68. I have Magma send it to Erik. I want as big a HP in it as possible. Why? I like hollow points and I want the bullet a bit lighter since the grease grooves are now filled with lead.

I didn't think about Erik removing the grooves...I could have had any BB design Magma offers and had Erik take care of the grooves, D'Oh! In fact, I bet I could have gotten any mold of any kind and had Erif alter it by removing the grooves, adding the bevel base and then topping it off with a nice hollow point...Double D'Oh!

What ( if you don't mind me asking ) did it run you . A member hear posted this morning looking for a 358-439 h p mold , and I considered mentioning the standard 358-429 and having it hollow pointed .

Mine was a lot more than normal because it was done to a mold that was made for a Master Caster. If it's a normal mold, it's much less expensive. It's all on his website, what I paid for a M/C mold and normal hand cast mold.

A while back Eric did two HP cavities in a 4 cavity Saeco 45 caliber mold. The price then was $50 a cavity and I have to say it is the best HP mold I have.

Looks nice seams like a reasonable price if you are looking to H p a mold .

Actually, if I were going to do it again I would choose a lighter bullet to begin with as it is velocity that makes an HP perform.

I requested the Inset-Bar hollow point bullet mold conversion ( that Erik is so noted for ) on a 4 cavity SAECO , .45 cal. pistol mold that I own.
To say I'm thrilled is a big under statement.
This mold cast very nice .4535" dia. hollow points about as fast as I can cast them with a conventional 2 cavity mold casting solids.
Erik's work is near perfection. The HP pins were smooth and offered no sticking of bullets on the pins.
Erik told me on the phone that this system would " spoil " me., well he is right, looks like I'm spoiled now.

Ben: Looks like you made a good choice in a mold to HP. Now with some powder coating you can get these running well over 1K fps., quite a defensive load.

That's a very nice looking mold...wish I could find one in .38/.357 but I'd be happy to find one of the old Lyman single cavities.

Can't wait to see your test results and details regarding the speed and Pb mix.

Hi Charlie,

I don't believe I have a single cavity 38/357, but I am pretty sure I have double cavity. Since I haven't cast any 38/357 since the late 60's I think it is a good bet I will never use it again so you can have it if you want it.
