I recently purchased a new to me Lyman 311644 dual cavity mold. It's the older design with the nose lube groove. I'm going to be using this in my 1903A4 - 2 groove remington. Hopefully it works out for me. If it's accurate enough I'm going to give it a try this deer season.

Anyway, does anyone actually lube the nose groove? Any beneficial or detrimental outcomes of not lubing the nose? I'm the type of caster that only lubes one or two grooves in the first place.

those ain't lube grooves.
they are alignment rings meant to engrave the rifling when the round is chambered.
I guess you could wipe some lube in there and it might help or hurt accuracy I have seen regular bore riders improve group size from a small amount of lube wiped on the nose.

I have that mold and have never really used that nose groove. I did tumble lube with Lee Liquid Alox as an overcoat after lubing and sizing. That mold shoots pretty good if the boolit fits your rifle. The newer 311644 molds don't have that lube groove on the nose.

Actually, those grooves were supposed to be lubed with a liquid lube like BLL , Recluse, or Lee liquid allox. I have never found it makes a difference. I have used it in my sporterized Springfield 06 and it is pretty accurate.
