Tried a google search, not coming up with an answer, or at least not an adequate one.

Building an AR-15. Got lower receiver and stock on. Today got upper and BCG with charging handle. Slid the BCG in and THEN realized the charging handle is supposed to go in FIRST. Now the BCG is latched in place and I've got no idea how to unhitch it to get it out. Tried shining light through and pushing a coat hanger and other things but can't seem to solve this.

Pull the gas tube and push in the gas key.

It has been a long time since I had an M16 apart, and even longer for an AR15, but try this: Take the upper off, if you haven't already. Reach in from the bottom with a suitable tool, and pull the bolt carrier towards the rear. As long as the cam pin is in place, this should rotate the bolt and allow you to unlock and remove it.

You might try a blow gun on an air compressor to unlock it, Remove gas block leaving the gas tube in place and seal the blow gun to the tube with tape and blow compressed air in to the tube. Fopr this to work you need an older blow gun thats not throttled back like the newer ones are. Other wise you need to get ahold of the bolt carrier with a tool ( non maring) and pull back hard. You might be able to pull the pins holding upper to lower and lift it apart front end first ( spring and buffer will not allow the back to rotate up when locked closed). You might reach thru the reciever into the key with a short rod and push it open also.

All you need to do is pull the upper, hold it with the receiver down and give it a quick jerk downwards with a sudden stop. Momentum will unlock it and the bolt carrier group will fall out. Best to do it over some sort of padded surface to protect the bolt when it comes out.
